As I mentioned in another topic, I finally got around to installing my RPW quick shifter on Saturday. I have to admit, I was a bit aprehensive doing the install myself until I got the centre console apart and saw just how basic the whole contraption is, then I felt kinda stupid for putting the job off a couple weeks :) and to think I considered getting my mechanic to do it for me

For anyone thinking the device is a simple cut and weld of the main shaft, it is not. In fact, while the throw is noticably shorter, I don't think my stick sits any lower than before (thanks to the necessary 1" spacers, mind you).

Anyway, I haven't had a chance to really thrash it yet, but I'm already enjoying the more solid feel the shifter gives the whole gear changing experience. I'd rate the whole thing a notch or two above the HSV short-shift my ex-boss has in his VX2 R8 - basically the same stick only 2" shorter!

now that the throw is shorter (the main game in the short shifter)

to get that height you want you can use the hacksaw

hahah.. now mine is low, short and throw is shorter too :D

hahah. mine sits around 3" high :D

Glad to hear you like it :D

When/if I get a short shifter, I want the stick to sit lower as well as below the pivot point extended to shorten the throw.

But that's just me...glad you like it mate!

I'll snap some of the shifter. might even take it back out again and take some next to the stock shifter to show the differences.

So approx how much did the shifter cost you, and is the end result worth it?

Shifter costs $220 + $100 which you get refunded when you return your stock shifter.. which David then modifies and sells off as a quick shift 8) plus whatever it costs to post a shoe box to wherever you are.

I think it was worth it. Shifts are quicker, but we're talking the difference between 1/2 second and 1/3 second or whatever. But it all counts!

I like it because changing gears feels more solid now, because of the shorter throw. The distance between when the gear starts to engage and when it is locked in is tiny..

Is it actually shorter at the top that it was? How much higher is the pivot point than before? I'd imagine it would feel better.

I think it is roughly the same height, but I remember seeing on Dave's web site that it may sit 1" lower.. the pivot point is at least an inch higher since you have to raise the base of the shifter on 1" spacers because the segment of the shifter below the pivot point is too long otherwise.

Either some afternoon this week or on the weekend I'll take it back out and snap some pics of the two side by side for comparisson. I'll take a pic of how it sits now and post it up for reference this evening.

For anyone that cares.. this is what the shifter looks like.. this is a stock one. I won't be able to get pics of the new one until later in the week.

On the top down pic you can see where the three bolts go. Easy.

It's clear there is plenty of room to move the pivot point upwards!

And this is how high the short shifter sits.. the tip of the stick is just higher than the hand brake when it is engaged. Keep in mind that the whole stick assembly is an inch above the mounting plate because of the spacers or it would be a whole lot shorter.
