i was at work 2day and my car was sitting in the sun (being a wagon that meant everything was in the sun), then when i went to go home the rear speakers keep cutting out intermittently.

i got home and checked the amps (1 amp for front, 1 for rears and 1 for sub) and they were all extremely hot (like i burnt myself). so i wired up some computer fans like i meant to weeks ago and got them cooled down but it was still doing it.

next i tried swapping the rcas for the front and back and low and behold which ever speakers were connected to the "rear" amp cut in and out, leading me to believe it is this amp.

now what could the problem be? is it fixable? or do i go buy my mates Alpine M-350 and change my set up around?

Cheers

Tim

Sorry to state the obvious, but have you checked your connections and made sure that the ground point is on bare metal and not paint? I made that mistake a long time ago and mistook the problem for an overheating amp.

definately not an earth problem, cuz all 3 amps earth thru the same distrubution block.

try swapping the speakers on the amp as well just to make sure it is the amp. There is still a possibility that wiring may have something to do with it.

ie. connect the front speaker wires (Not the Line IN RCA's) to the amp which is currently powering the rear speakers. If it is the amp, then the front speakers should produce the faults.

Just like TecoDaN said, it’s all about trial and error. Before you go out doing anything with another amplifier, try running the suspect speakers with another amplifier first to rule the speakers out. :)
