Has anyone out there had any success with the Jacar speed alert kit?
I've got a TE Altera - doesn't have the speed alert fitted, so bought the Jacar kit to make and install myself.
I'm just a little surprised that I need to fit a speed sensor to the drive shaft#$%^^*%
Has anyone else fitted one of these kits before? If so I wouldn't mind your opinion on them. If not, I'll post my success when I've figured it all out.
I keep speeding (unintentionally) in the city so figure the $66 on the kit is a worthy investment to save a $200 fine!

Apparently these kits are accurate to within 1KmPH

Cheers

Sounds a bit too ghetto when you have to place your own sensors onto the driveshaft. A proper system would simply hook up to the VSS wire in the car. Also in regards to accuracy, there is no way to guarantee a constant 1kph variance as your tyres will wear and put that out. You would have to recalibrate it every few weeks to keep it to 1kph.

If this is the kit that originally came from Silicon Chip magazine, then a few months after the original article they printed details on how to interface it to the output from the speedo sensor.

Check out their website www.siliconchip.com.au if you email them they'll probably let you know how you can get the info...most of their articles can now be purchased online.

The Silicon Chip Dec 1999 kit is the one. Hooking in to the existing speedo is what I want to do. I'll get on to Silicon Chip.
Silicon Chip has just released a book specifically on electronic projects for cars. Gonna check it out tonight.

I'm all up for the PCB construction (easy peasy), it's the drive shaft thing that freaked me out. Hopefully it is as easy as hooking into my speedo.
