I recently had an ignition problem with my car but got a relay installed and now its all good. but a week later by rear left brake light stopped working. i bought some new globes and replaced it thinking that would be the culprit, but it didnt start working agin. ive checked fuses. any help would be great. im just puzzled since its only the one. Thanks.

comon problem in a wagon

usually the earth contact ...remove any corosion

check all wiring at rear left brake light

do the indicator and reverse lights work ??

make a new/clean earth contact if you can

check the brake pedal switch is working properly

As above only brake pedal switch is working as he stated the brake light on RHS is working?

Also check the plug inside the quater panel or behind the light depending where the last person who had the light off poked it. The terminals corrode.

If indicator is working, dont bother about the earth as the indicator will not work either.

Test for power at the plug.

Also, has it got a tow bar, check to see of they patched the brake light in on this wire, it could have brolen also.

the warning light comes on. the left brake light does work as do the parkers and indicators. i checked the plug behind the light and it looks as good as new. i dont have a tow bar.
i really hav no idea. how do i check the brake switch?

change the stop bulb again swap both bulbs over and see which one lights up

the bulb has two fillements that light up one is parker/tail the other stop

the brake switch is working the one unit operates both lights

focus on checking the live wire to the rear LHS not working

make sure that wire to that stop bulb has 12 volts

What area are you in mate, will prob take me 5 mins to find and sort out, there are a few "cheats" to get this fixed if the wire is also broken also.

i live in croydon vic. the light manifold has 3 globes. one is parkers, one indictor and one stop. so i dont understand what u mean by 2 filaments. im pretty naive when it comes to car electronics and i dont hav a mulitmeter handy or anything. thanks for all your help

Hey doesn't the power cable come down to the right hand side rear brake light, then simply crosses over to the LH rear brake light? So if the LH side is not working, and the RH is working, then problem is somewhere between the 2.

the stop bulb has the parker light built inside it

so at the rear you should have
reverse white
indicator orange
stop red
park red
