View Full Version : How much should I expect to pay? (TE/TF)
I've currently got a 1999 Lancer VR-X coupe, but i'm selling it as I need a few thousand $$$ for an o/s trip at the end of the year.
I should get around $11000 for my car. I wanted to put $2000-$3000 away for my O/S trip so lets just say i'm working on a budget of $8000.
There are quite a few 1996-1998 TE/TF Magnas for around this kinda price in the trading post.
Are these prices more than likely firm or could I hope to negotiate?
KM's arent really an issue as long as they're below 150 000.
Plans are to put it on 18's, sound system, exhaust mods + maybe bodykit in future.
Cheers
It all depends on how much has been done to the car and what sought of condition its in. But i would say for an average te-tf no higher than 10,000 or your not getting a good deal. Just to give you an idea mine is a 96 te manual with only 111000 on the clock with 18's full body kit lowered and aftermarket exhaust with lots of other various mods, and i paid 10,500 fo it privately.
I want to get a stock magna and do the mods myself.
KM's between 100000 and 150000 or maybe even higher
My mates parents have a 97 3.0L v6 exec manual with 90000kms on it. They were offered $5500 trade in on it about 2 months ago.
They are looking to get a new car soon so looks like I might be able to buy it off them... my mate said he's going to speak to them about it tonight.
I'd probably give them up to $8000 for it so any price is good :)

I dont think 13'000 is bad for an 97 Altera, if 9'000 is average for an exec, of that year. the execs then didnt even have a drivers a/bag, altera has dual a/bags and ABS and full electrics, alloys. Hard to find.

All you fellas down around sydney and brisbane or just south queensland/new south wales are lucky, Cars are alot cheaper down there. I paid $10500 for my TF from pickles auctions up here in townsville (population only about 130 000 compared to brissy's million+ ppl) anyway, exec with 65 000 kms and it was a bargain at 10500 for up here:redface:. Everyone up here agrees. Most if not all car yards up here sell TE's TF's for around 13 grand with fairly high km's, or at least thats the way it seemed when I went magna hunting.
Anyway Im just having a winge cos cars are so much cheaper down south , and Im stuck up here in sunny north queensland .
In conclusion though, I love my magna, and I can't believe at one stage I was thinking of buying a VS .

The lowest I have for seen for TE manuals are $7000 - $7500. For one with a nice low amount of kms say 110,000 or so you would be looking at around $8,000. My next car will probably be a TE Advance purely for the ABS factor or a KE Xi Verada. Basically want the newer shape magna, so TE/KE is teh cheapest since they all look the same to me. I also want parabolics and a nice interior so the KE looks like the one. This probably wont be for around 3 years or so. Start full time work in 1.7 years so am looking forward to finally having some money :P

i paid 13 000 for my 98 TF (auto) with all options cept power windows but only 60 000 on the odometer and i got $1000 free fuel and it was a family car so knew it wasnt thrashed, but this was also 7 months ago prices drop alot for magnas which mean good for when u buy but when u sell, it ends in tears.

True I dont think I would EVER buy a brand new magna.. I would just cry.. This is my theory for my next car
1996 TE Exec Magna (3.0L man) brand new = $28,000
1996 KE Xi Verada (3.5L auto) brand new = $48,500
1996 TE Exec Magna now = $ 7000
1996 KE Verada now = 10,500
In about 3 years when I decide to buy my car the Verada will probably only be about $2000 - $ 3000 more expensive. For an extra $2000 or so heck I might as well buy a car that was worth $20,000 more brand new with a 3.5L motor, parabolics, power windows, leather seats, woodgrain inserts, cool rear lights, different front bumper, fog lights, 16" alloys, climate control, dual airbags, alarm, 10 cd disc stacker, cruise control, leather steering wheel. Man I never really thought about Veradas but I think they are pretty damn worth it. Imagina what our kids will be driving. In 25 years or so my kid could prob buy a HSV GTS for dirt cheap as his first car if cars arent already running on hydrogen by then..... all I have to say is DAMN to the drop in magna resale value and cars in general!!

it all depends on the car, I paid $14000 last Aug year for my 98 TF AUTO, lowered, 16" mags, tinted, EVO spoiler.
So i think it was worth it back then. Though I think for a peace of mind, you should look at the history of the car.

When did TH's come out? Was it the end of 98 or sometime during 99? I've always though it was sometime during 99, not end of 98/ start of 99.
Chief

They didn't come out until 99. They came with both the 3.0L and 3.5L.
