--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Just a question on whether the fuel sender should be sparking across itself on a TH. Followed the instructions from tech thread but couldn't see anything wrong except that the sender was well worn at one end which is the full mark and not so at the other. Put ignition to aux due to the TL only registering with Aux ON. could see sparks cross from sender and slide.
Have stopped and inquired about another sender at local part supplier. Said they can get some but not for the TH Magna???
Is there an interchangible unit that can be used?
What is the current going rate? As my local dealer is very expensive with pricing.
Have got the necessary part number from other thread, thanks.

UMMMMMM B4 it goes BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM... .... i would cut all power to the car via disconnecting the Battery and remove the sender unit. Take the part number and go to your local Mitsu for the part. If Nissan Still make fuel sender units for a 1983 Bluebird then i say mitsu should have these.

interesting to note having spoken to some experts it turns out that a spark in submerged petrol in a fuel tank is no real problem as there is a lack of oxygen to feed the spark.
Wow answered my own tech question.
Reason for spark is due to wearing through of float gauge on sender and it then coming apart allowing a spark to cross.
Followed steps from forum of removal of sender, but it is was difficult to disconnect fuel line. Double check rejoining for clips holding on. Took time and you don't want petrol being spewed out under the rear of the car. Job done. 1/2 hr but needed to wait 3 days for part.
Always try and use, get, steal a part number. Price quoted with part number over phone $72.21 At the counter $103 but mates deal $83.50. Qouted phone price, so $72.21 it was.

yeah common misconception is that a full tank of petrol will explode, however the air to fuel ratio in the tank needs to be (from memory) 7-10% before it is explosive.

Really it works like a wet spark plug. Too much fuel wont ignite, But if you were to open the fuel cap and here the WHOOSH of air and its during its spark it will ignite:shock:
