hey folks
have seen a few decent condition 4 cylinder efi engines from tr's and ts's around the place for <$300
I have a 92 TR magna with the carburetor and it's chewing through fuel like crazy, 18-19L per hundred k's. I'm almost 100% sure the carby is buggered and it'll be ~500 bucks to get it reconditioned to bring the fuel consumption down. Just wondering whether it would be abetter idea to replace the engine and if so, what is involved. Would i just buy the new engine and put it in or would i need to do a whole lot of stuff and it would get expensive?
cheers

the engine computer management
EFI fuel pump and EFI rated fuel line
inlet manifold of the EFI
exhaust manifold or extractores with O2sensor
catalytic converter if not already fitted

You'll need quite a bit of stuff I'd say, ie. the entire fuel injection system, ECU, etc.
Personally, I'd get a donor car. It'll make things a hell of a lot easier, as you'll have a reference point.
Depending on the condition of your motor, it may be better to transfer the injection gear, or if it's pretty shagged, drop a whole newish donk in.
I'm sure one of our more knowledgeable 4 cylinder members (magna buff of madmagna) will be along shortly :D

that post of the conversion and pictures of deans tells it as it is
think we did it on the hotest 3 days that year:rant:
better fuel economy and power after the conversion
If you intend to keep the car money well spent
mm dash has to come out

I got a fair ammount of that stuff, wiring loom, inlet and outlet EFI, air box, injectors you would pretty much just need EFI fuel lines and pump.

there are two fuel lines available to join an electrical fuel pump
you need to buy EFI rated fuel line that takes the pressure
and good quality clamps that hold
the rubber hose is stamped EFI along its length
