Ripped one out as it looks like a T5 but its actually wired directly into the base? So I've ripped it out to slap a T5 in there but yeah the top looks the same as a T5 but the base is totally different, i.e. wired directly to plastic base..
Question is, how i do an "LED replacement" for the dash clock T5 look alikes?
I'm sure ive seen it done on here before?

To me they looked like standard LED's with the pigtails threaded into the little plastic mount.

something I can help you with paul. I used LED's in my dash clock using the existing bases. All you have to do is remove the plastic base from the LED by unfolding the wire prongs. you just pull them out. It woks the same way for the existing globes, just unfold/pull the wires out and pull on the globe and it should come loose. fit the LED and bent the wire around so that it's looking something like what it used to. :)

Ahh, sweet...So i just use a normal LED for this and bend the prongs around. i can do that!
Thanks for the info :D

yeah, normal LED, take the plastic holder off if you got it. I bought the ones from autobarn, so they had plastic holders.
no worries.:) always glad to help

Half of the centre cluster uses these, and I'm still yet to find a replacement.
In theory it's easy to just twist an LED's leads in there, but the problem is finding a stock 12V LED that's bright enough! Otherwise you have to try to fit a resistor in there as well, which is damn-near impossible. Though a thought I had, which might need revisiting (forgot and never tried it), is to have the resistor (shielded of course) hanging off the back of the holder; there's usually plenty of room behind it.
Or start doing some SMD soldering...

The ones from autobarn for $8 are plenty bright! they're excellent. I've got them everywhere. To put it in perspective, one LED lights up the aircon/heater controls panel

one LED lights up the aircon/heater controls panelIt had better, 'cause there is only one light fitting!
