Just stirring of course lol I will always own euros myself, but i still rate the 380 as one of the better cars i have driven after having one for 2500km and a week around vic and NSW. (one of the best driving roads is a little back road b/w Wagga and Wantabadgery on the way to Gundagai - some of a sweetest sweepers you could want with enough rough surface to really show what excellent chassis balance a 380 has. Much fun  The other good road is the Oxley Hwy inland from Port Maquarie - i found out a 380 will lock you out of 2nd when its transmission gets a bit warm from too many tiptronic shenanigans!)

EDIT _ I had a You Tube link here, but Mods asked it to be moved to the Members lounge thread, where it is now posted. A great vid of a ClioSport and a Pug 206GTi and a 380 going at it on a track. :)

i wondered what happened.. did someone delete it? Not first post - did a a few in the 2nd gen section on the 2nd i bought and fixed up for my Mum.

Bag away guys lol Froggy cars rock in many ways, but i still rate the 380 as the best thing this country ever made. I really really liked it - it felt like a big Renault in the way its handling was set up - ie responsive and balanced (a looooooooong way from the 2nd gen i have!! lol ).

anyways, hope you all have enough of a sense of humour to take a little friendly stirring :D

The best thing I remember about Renaults was on top gear.....
' you know the shortbreads you get in a tin, well yopu the black plastic that stops the biccies rattlin around, well that a dashboard for renault....they take that out and use it as a dash'

What's this?

I haven't had anything like that happen to me...but don't use tiptronic mode a lot.

What does it do? Stop you changing lower than second?

The Oxley Hwy out of Pt Mac is about 70km of winding mountain rd, mostly 2nd and 3rd gear corners one after the other after the other after the other :bowrofl: :bowrofl:

I rarely selected 5th, and went for 2nd coming into hairpins a lot - a few were even 1st gear corners (albeit 5000rpm ones  ). I went through half a tank of fuel in those 70km - i was pushing very hard!!!

I got a tranny a little warm shall we say

I was really impressed with the TC on the 380 - it wouldnt kill the fun, allowing enough wheelspin out of tight corners to give you the feel through the wheel as to what the road was doing, and to be able to balance the car on the throttle nicely. But it tamed things just enough to keep a lid on rampant torque steer. Nice programming there - compare to a Commode TC that will just shut the motor down when slip is detected....

Yeah surprising how well these 380's handle, I took one for a test drive when they 1st came out simply to see if the balance was good as Mitsubishi where saying it was. I wanted to try a manual, but all they had was a GT.

The rear end does allot more compared to the 3rd gen Magnas, they don't feel as nose heavy (very hard to achieve when you have a large heavy motor over the front axle line). For a large FWD it had an amazing amount of turn in, and just enough lift off oversteer to be entertaining. I needed a large rear sway bar and and some negative camber on the front till I got my TF to reach a similar level of adjustability.

Having recently sold a Renault Laguna I for one can say I'd prefer a Mitsubishi :P

I was surprised at the Laguna I sat in at the Sydney Motor show some years ago. Glad to see the French build better cars than they can tanks. Again sadly, I think the Germans still have if over the French by a long way. I love Greg's M5 V10.

mine just doesnt let you change gears any more.....tends to go into 3rd gear and then holds it refusing to accept any more inputs from me. Not entirely sure what causes it

there will simply be a transmission fluid temp sensor that the trans ECU uses for ensuring good shift feel and appropriate shift points depending in the temperature - its one way modern autos give smooth shifts hot and cold (old school trans will tend to clunk a bit when cold). I am guessign the ECU will sense it getting too warm and pull the pin on the fun until you give the trans a chance to cool a bit.

On my run up Walcha Mtn, i pulled over for a few minutes engine idling (to keep the fluid circulating through the cooler) and took off again with all gears available :)

I have a Laguna 1 (a rare 2 litre manual). Nice car, with very good handling. I will be the fisrt to admit it aint the best screwed together thing, but its not bad.
