Hey guys,

My "Tail" fuse in the engine bay has been blowing very regularly recently...
Now, everythime I replace the 10A fuse and turn on my lights it blows!!!!!!!

Any ideas?
Thanks very much

This may well be related to the additional tails you've added? I've forgotten were they running off the same circuit as the tails, or the number plate lights, or is that the same circuit anyway?

Maybe you just need to up the fuse to deal with the extra lights? I've be cautious about doing that but its my only thought really. Maybe disconnect the bootlid tails and see if you still have the same problem?

check the earths, they might have corred and are rubbing against something causing it to earth out and blow it

Ok thanks guys, will check in the morning...

Basically at the back i got two bulb holders for the parkers out of a spare set of tailights and mounted them in my rada garnish spliced off the numberplate lights. (This illuminates extra sections in the garnish)

What should I look for with my connections with this?

You soldered the connections yeah? Check for anywhere they might be earthing, soldering points and so on, its more likely they're causing an issue than the factory wiring.

Hi Josh

Work backwards from the last thing you did/added.

I assume you don't have a tow bar (sorry new here, others may know your car better than I do). If you do, check the harness. Not sure what tail bulbs that model takes, but if they are dual filament make sure they are in the right way around. As suggested above disconnect the harnesses feeding the tails one by one. It should be a quick fix so long as something isn't melted in the loom

Thanks guys,
Checked today and I have no idea why the fuse keeps blowing! The wiring is all in tact and not earthing out on anything!

So...instead of replacing the 15A fuse with a 15A one, I have put in a 20A one and it seems to be holding up.

1. Is this dangerous?
2. Whats the worst that could happen?

Thanks, Josh

kkaaabooom:noway: nah should be ok. what size globes did u add. are they 5w wedges. also did u recently add a headunit if so check that u havent connected the dash light feed to the headunit feed. or check that the dash light feed behind the headunt is well insulated.

Howdy Josh

Just for the sake of the excercise you could place a ammeter across where the fuse goes to see how much the circuit is drawing. (Obviously it's under 20A). Definitely check the wattages of the bulbs as suggested above to make sure they are in spec. Also, maybe find out what the fuse rating is for the same model with the same tail lighting options. You might find it's higher.

Try not to be tempted to go over 20A, because it could be a fire risk.

Feel the fuse in question with the lights on and see if it's getting warm or hot. Feel the wires where they connect to the fuse in question to make sure they are not hot. Try this with the brake pedal depressed which will draw maximum current (brake lights on).

There are ways of reducing the load on the circuit if you need to by using relays. Just run another line from your battery (with a 10A fuse at the battery end) and feed the lights via the relay.

Sorry about the long winded reply

all the best

Thanks for the replies guys. Blake, youre a champ, really appreciate that...will be in touch soon if I find the wires and/or fuse are heating up to ask about the relay set-up.

Hi Josh

I was interested to see how you went with this. Hope all went well.

Josh, find out what the fuse rating is for Veradas. I added extra brake/night lights to my
old KS v6xi and did not have any fuse problems. Upping the fuse amp may shift the problem
else where, like melt a wire that wasn't meant to handle the extra currant.
