Ok, this is really frustrating.
I put a new stereo into my TR Wagon last week, and the battery drained flat. so the old man takes the battery out and recharges it. Now the magna accelerates like its a 4 cylinder. My magna used to accelerate quite sharply but now it seems to take forever to get to 50, even using just 1st.
So im thinking, either the exhaust is blocked, the air intake is blocked, or the ECU has been reset somehow, affecting the rate of acceleration.
Any ideas??
Cheers

ECU's been reset dude, there's a thread on here that tells you how to get it learning properly. dont stress, I drive mine normally when it's in learning mode and it'll eventually go back to how it used to be. you can imagine how bad a 4cyl takes off if your 6 is going like a 4cyl

yeh the ecu is re learning your driving. so if you want it to be spirty. drive flat foot for first 100 kays or so, worked for me.

Most will say it's the ECU relearning, but is it actually in the ECU or more in the TCU? Reason I ask is because i've serviced a few dodgy TCU's in the past, and the result of a failed one was incredibly slow takeoff.
It then proceeded to catch fire and so forth.
Just a thought, purely a curiosity item.

Nothing like a bit of "spirited" driving to get it back on form. :P

Did not realise that this was a thread about the 4 and 6 debate, was sure that I read in the first post that someone had issues?
Glad it is fixed, was simply going to suggest you disc the battery for a few hours, idle it for 20 or so minutes, then take for a good stiff drive.
Other thing for others to check, be wary with the TCU, if it is driving like it is towing a house behind it, could be the TCU, to tell if it is, drive at around 40, drop back to 1st and see if you get a gear change. If not change, then TCU bye bye

ok, so if it is the TCU, then what? i'll check that out tomorrow.

If TCU is shagged, it simply will stay in third, you will need to replace it, most self service wreckers have them now days fairly cheap
