Did anybody knew about this?

It's about the 2002 Magna"

"Mitsubishi's traction control also includes what the company calls trace control, which is a simplified yaw-stability system. Sensors compare steering-wheel angle to vehicle speed, and a computer dials down engine power if the driver is in danger of exceeding the car's cornering grip. " >>> excerpt from this article: http://www.nctd.com/review-drive.cfm?ReviewID=1188

I definitely feel that the engine cuts power when the wheels are turned, even if i press the throttle harder. This might be the explanation?

got another article for the 1999 DIamante:

"For 1999, Diamante also offers the safety and convenience of available traction control. The system immediately identifies wheel spin on slippery surfaces, then automatically works to enhance traction during standing start acceleration. In addition, the system has a unique "trace control" function which reduces power to the engine when the driver is exceeding the vehicle's cornering capability under acceleration."

from: http://www.autoworld.com/news/Mitsubishi/Diamante_Gem.htm

that means the system is on the 99 Magnas as well

Now that we know that it has Trace Control, we need to find out a way to disable it :D

guys it is only the sports models (sports, VRX ralliart) that have traction and trace control , and is only the autos (tip tronic) ones which do. The manual raliart has a LSD.

My 1999 TH Sports 4sd tip has trace and traction control, you just turn it off by pushing the TCL button on dash to right of steering wheel, if you don't have the button you don't have TCL! Once TCL is turned off you can get the wheels smoking nicely :)

hehe, you dont necessarily need to turn traction control off to achieve that effect..... ;)

Yeah I now about it. It stops Torque Steer when you nail it, esp one corners.

i had my TCL light flickering at 100kph through a roundabout. Thought it was traction control then I read the manual and figured it was reducing the torque effect on cornering and slowing down.

I always use it on my 2002 sports. It bloody well works and is great in the rain.

what you're talking about is not torque steer, but understeer.... and the little light flashing will be the traction control/trace control sorting out the understeer for you!! its very obvious in my car in the wet.... if you hit the play pedal on a roundabout you head straight off the road, where as with your car, the TC takes over and gets you around the roundabout!!!

oh... torque steer is where you're trying to drive straight and the car tries to throw you sideways!!! normally this happens under heavy acceleration and cna be fixed by things like stiffer suspension and strut braces.
