hey all
found a nice 01 white tj vr-x with 155 thou kays on the clock,
it drives nice and straight, i'm not a mechanic but i can't see anything wrong with it, only thing is he doesn't have any logbooks. he says he's only had it 2 years, bought it from an auction, and has done the servicing himself since he bought it.
the guy is asking for $9.5k, i was going to offer 8.5 due to the fact that the front tyres need replacing soon, and the fact it has no logbooks. does that sound reasonable?

Why's he getting rid of it?
They're too bloody good of a car to just say to yourself "right im selling it on..."
Without any logged history of the car I personally, wouldn't go near it. Don't get me wrong, 155k kms isn't all that bad... But you need to delve deeper with questions on what he's done to it or had to have done on it...
Servicing himself has it's upsides, but he could have seen a problem which would cost him ****loads to fix and just thought sack it.
I'll leave this one in your hands my friend, just remember there's no warranty when buying from any random Joe Bloggs... :doubt:

oh yeah forgot to mention why he is selling
he is getting rid of it due to having a company car and so not needing the magna anymore.. story checks out, i got his business card and saw his company one parked in the driveway.
i know what you're saying about them being too nice of a car to just sell for no reason. I don't think he ever really wanted it to start off with.. he says originally he was at the auction to buy a VX commodore but then this magna vr-x came up and no one was bidding on it so he bid and got it.

i would get a mechanic to look over it for you, when i bought mine the sellers father said that they did all the servicing themselvs but then the seller said it hadnt taken it to the mechanic to be serviced for a few months!?!. so most of the time they just make somthing up to get rid of the car.
i wouldnt be offering anything until you get it all checked out by a mechnic first, could cost u alot more in the end if this guy has ****ed the car.

Why not? Its a Magna not a $500k supercar. Everyone has to move on sometime.
Main things with the TJs are check the auto shifts ok and doesnt flare into 3rd, no oil leaks, no ticking noise(lifters) and no smoke when revved(valve stem seals). Apart from this they're quite reliable.

I'm not too mechanically minded but I do know my way around and I do know how the 3rd gens should drive/sound. I'd be happy to help?
Cheers, Paulie.
