Stick to the manual. Im on my second tiptronic under warranty.

God knows what youd get if you fitted a second hand one...

What he said. Yuk, why would you have less power due to the auto?

Manual conversions the way to go. Any one have any idea of how much a manual transmission would cost, aswell as all the required components? Either new or second hand.

If my auto ever goes then Im gonna chuck a manual trans in there, in my opinion its worth the extra hassle even just for the reliablity factor, let alone performance factor and drivability factors, and anyway the eating while driving factor isn't really a factor to consider. Quite a few factors to think about really  .

From what I've heard those manual 3 litre manuals move. Was talking to a brothers mate who owned a 3 litre manual, only mod was muffler. He timed it to a 15.7 and it would beat the older SS commies, even though we all know that those 5 litre SS's were all shiz boxes anyway  .

And I remember test driving one a while back and it had some balls, more then my auto anyway. If only a trans conversionwasn't so pricey  .

Does any one have any idea just how many dollars a manual conversion would set you back? Because to start with u'd need to chuck a clutch pedal in there, and gear stick, then trans itself. Do transmission mounts need modifying to fit? And do you need a new computer aswell? Or does the auto computer just cease to be used or disconnected or something?? :?

Sure that wasn't supply parts only? seems a little cheap for genuine new parts and the actual ammount of labour involved and everyone knows that Mitsu charge heaps for that!

If mitsu are only charging $4000 to do the work and using a new box, rather than one sourced second hand then i'll have mine in by Aug/Sept this year.

....Then you could always sell your old auto box to cover some of that costs I suppose, but it might not be worth much to anyone other than a wrecker and I'd doubt that they'd offer you much for it either.

I asked the question of my local Mitsu dealer today, here was their response:

Chris.... Guys here still cant stop laughing...

To do what you want is HUGE $$$$$$$ prob can be done but !!!!! Computer
probs,axles, pedal box,console,its endless..Your 5k would be a huge underestimate...

save them pennys ...

Mind you the same dealer said similar when I asked about 1-piece parabolics for my TJ Exec. I've since done that conversion and it cost me only $600.00 which was nowhere near what they quoted just for the parts only, yet alone labour etc.

Fortunately I know a guy that works in the service department at melville Mitsu through a mate of mine, might have to talk to them later in the week ...

I was going to ask him first initially but then though nah, i'll ask the dealer just around the corner from work - bad choice!

Ok,hopefully in the future(Sometime)I want to source a 5 speed Tippy, now would the Tip need the ECU from the magna that it came out of,or would my ECU work with it?
Jus so i know in the future 8)
Thanx if i get some light on this 8) The ECU will need to be changed as the older auto ECU's don't accomodate this feature at all, they are made bare minimum spec, they don't pad them with possible future upgrades.

I'd be more inclined to trade your car in on a newer model... will cost the same and hopefully you'ld get a better car with lower milage!
