Hey all,

Thinking about putting a K & N pod filter in my 2001 3.5ltr V6. Anyone else done it? Is it easy to do? And most importantly what are the results like; especially in terms of sound?

cheers in advance

1) Search is your friend.

2) The Magna and Pod filters do not work very well together.

3) An open pod in the engine bay is really not sensible, sucks in hot air, potential for a massive flat spot, and apparently is is illegal.

4) just replace the paper filter with a K&N.

You would probably get a better result by buying or construction a Cold Air Intake, CAI.

Again the Magna is a little difficult as there isn't much room to get pipework out of the filter box and down past the Hoses and A.C. canister to a suitable pick up position behind the front bar.
However, again I recommend that you do a search for photos and advice.

So what would be the differences between the pod filter and replacing the stock shaped one? I think the pods cost more but which is better over-all for my car?

Have you ever put a pod filter on a magna before dude? I've run three different pod filters without any problem other than the adaptor ring for one of them was too small and had to be replaced with a larger one so the MAF could actually use all its holes.

A K&N Oval pod filter is the recommended pod filter for a magna due to their appropriately designed MAF adaptor. That said, you can use other brands and shapes too as I stated before.

Exposed pod filters in Queensland (where I am located, so I don't really know/care about other states) are legal as long as they are secured somehow, preferably with a metal bracket from Supercheap that goes under the pod filter's pipe ring. The fact they suck in hot air is true, and thus a heat shield and some sort of CAI for said pod is advisable. Some people like to route the plumbing down near the front bar then put the pod there, but I like to ford rivers and floodwater in my car so that's a no-go for me.

I'd just go a panel filter, quick and easy, you'll see as much gain as a pod filter with this (apart from that delicious noise you get with a pod), and with a fraction of the effort.

I have a K&N oval pod. Easy fit and totally legal in the ACT. I am not running a CAI as I just hate the idea of all that plastic/metal piping for minimal HP gain and all the hassle of buggering with the the wiring to move the MAF downstream. And the sound of the pod just can't be beat (along with a good exhaust).

If I just replace the actual filter with a k&n one, rather than get the pod filter; do you still get the sound?

ive ran down the 1/4 with standard filter, K&N pod filter & K&N panel filter

non made any difference to my time....

if you want to make some noise get a pod filter.... otherwise stick with your standard setup.. thats my opinion.. the

advantage of the k&n panel filter over the standard paper one is you wont need to keep replacing.. good if you plan to keep the car for many many years..

for the most part you can't notice any massive increase.. with a pod filter..

BUT.. on hot days or crawling traffic i have noticed my fuel economy decrease.. and the car seem sluggish.. due to the pod just being exposed in the enginebay..

on a cool night driving on the freeway or somthing like that.. it's a different story.. you really notice a difference with cooler air..

i will be adressing this issue soon with the car.. as i plan to keep it for a while.. :)

as stated above panel will be better so it look stock and u would'nt have issues with the popo

Plus, it takes longer to remove from the box than it does to install in the car :D

the maximum diff with a pod v a normal filter would be .5kw at best, regardless of the conditions.

i'll rather have a long time taking it off than wait long time to gain back lost points from defects:think: :D
