Back to the filters once more... I understand pod filters (K&N) to be somewhat troublesome to fit to magnas ( I have a 2001 v6), and so was guessing it'd be easier/cheaper to just get one of the k & n replacement bar/panel looking replacements. Do you still get the performance and sound out of this option?

Cheers all

gee thanks

Im sorry if that may have seemed harsh, doddski was just pointing out that, it has been asked and answered many times, it would be more efficient to search as you wouldnt have to wait for replies as they would already be available to you. Try the search option, seeing as your new here, you might find what you need through the search option, if you dont reask the question, best of luck either way

sorry but why did you start another thread about the same thing just in a different way the question you asked here was answer in the other thread

I just did a search for panel vs pod and got 12 thread there would have been plenty of info and would have answered your questions if you just searched.

I had a similar question today, however I searched and found some interesting things. There have been a few guys here who have used a normal, round filter, with the proper adaptor and had no issues at all. The proper size adaptor is 114mm (4.5 inches). Most of the problems with round filters seem to come from the wrong sized adaptor.

Also, the 2nd gen is ment to have the same maf as the 3rd gen, and my mate is running a redline 4.5inch filter, with 4.5inch adaptor with no issues at all

Anyway, I went down to repco today, and ordered my round filter. Im hoping to prove all those wrong who say it wont work.

With a pod you will probably get a slight loss in power, due to ingesting hot engine-bay air.

If you put it in a proper box with a CAI, you will gain a few kw, but lose most of the pod sound.

If you get a k&n panel you will not gain any power or noise. But, perhaps a slight improvement in throttle response, and a slightly more rev-happy feel (maybe placebo).

Really your best bet to gain a couple of kw without spending too much is to make a DIY "drainpipe" style CAI.

I put a K&N panel filter in my car, and to be honest, although its not doing any harm, I didnt notice any difference at all in sound or power. However, I guess any improvement that might be expected like 2kw, would not be noticeable anyway.

The whole "round v oval" thing has been done to death, and results seem to vary between person to person.

I have a round pod (albeit a $300+ Blitz pod I picked up cheap :D) and I have had none of the said issues that are supposed to arise.

If you wanna do a CAI on the cheap, just get two pod heat shields, line the insides with heat resistant padding (as metal will conduct the heat as if it wasn't there, the padding keeps the heat off the pod). Make up some sort of bell connector at the front (I'm currently doing this) so it reduces the hole to a size you get pipe around and sealed, and lead the pipe to the front bar.

If you aren't prepared to do this sort of thing to gain the power, then don't bother with it :P Because if you get exhaust, you won't be able to hear the pod anyway!

I brought a round pod with an incorrect adapter which made the car jump around like crazy.

Took the adapter back and got the correct one with the same round pod and car goes great and sounds great.

The first adapter i got was made for a magna apparently however the one i now have seems to be for a nissan which has the exact shape of the large honeycomb mesh intake that you see when you take of the stock filter.

The round pod i have has a closed top on it.

actually.. i have the 2.5" off the shelf system from cat back from redback.. and my pod is about 100 times louder than the exhaust on full noise.. all you can hear is the retardedly (i know thats not a word) loud pod filter noise..
