Well, as of late my car seems to like to play games. About a week ago I relised that when going wot, the car would get to 4000rpm just find, and then just stop, the car would surge, rock back and forth, and just not go over 4000.
Anyway, the next day, started the car up, the issue had gone. After a period of driving, the problem started again. Then the problem went away for a day or two.
Few days ago problem got worse. At first car was fine, no issues. Then, it started surging again, but this time, at a much lower rpm. It first started at about 3500rpm, then by the time I got to uni (40min trip), I was having major problems just driving the car, I had to keep the revs below 2500rpm.
Got back in the car after I finished uni, and it was all fine again.
NOTE, when I say fine, I mean it seems fine. Obviously I cant take my car to redline on the streets just to find out weather it is surging anywhere.
Surging happens in all gears.
Basically Ive thought of a few things.
1. Fuel filter
2. Fuel pump
3. Injectors
Problem with these is not im not sure that they would create a problem only sometimes.
Also thought there could be a loose plug somewhere. Fuel pump plug is fine however.

a mate had the same issue with his magna 99, when he went over 80Kms/hr it would shake and just didnt wana go above 80, ill have to ask what he did to get it fixed because it drives hella smooth last time i saw it, im thinking it was in need of a transmition service, ill ask anyway.

Not speed releated at all in my car, its strictly engine rpm induced. To explain what happens, its a similar feeling to a car running out of fuel, that kind of surge. This has led me believe it has to be fuel releated.

Dizzy. Common problem on these.

dizzy or fuel pump or fuel filter.
i think these cars have an inline fuel filter somewhere under the car?
they sometimes get clogged with crap that ends up in the fuel tank...
try a bottle of injector cleaner or two first and run that through and see if it makes any difference (itl help clean the lines as well as the injectors too)
(that would be my first trail fix)
another thought, could it be a TPS starting to die and give off bad readings to the ecu and telling it wrong stuff?

Ye, one of those things where it may be hard to pinpoint. Tried some injector cleaner, seemed to help a bit, however ill try more soon. Im in the process of changing the fuel filter, just having a bugger of a time trying to undo one of the bolts.
Ill keep you all posted on my results

Ok guys. This has gotten much worse as off the last few days. Really need to get this issue solved so I can prep my car for sale.
I have a video (3gp) but am having problems trying to find somewhere to host it. Im starting to think its the fuel pump, because as far as I know, spark problems dont cut out the way my car is.

ill go against the grain here and check your EGR valve, Gashed had a similar issue but made his TCL stay on consistantly

Ok, heres a vid. Quality is very, very bad, it seems that a decent camera phone takes the worst videos ive ever soon.
Keep an ear out for the sound moreso than the actuall video. This was taken in first gear, accelerator flat to the floor.

Mods, I know You Tube video's arnt allowed, however if there is any issues with the google video, fell free to remove the link, and let me know.
Other symptons, Fuel surge going around bends quickly with half tank of fuel (normally same bend is fine with half a tank).
Tonight I am trying a mates fuel pump in my car, to see if this solves the problem, I am hoping it does. I will update with what happens.

if it is intermittent, and doesnt have any particular circumstances it is happening in, i would be checking that you dont have any crud floating around in the petrol tank blocking the fuel pick up.
Think of it like this....bit of crap floating around and moving around while you are driving, goes past the fuel pickup, pump suck it up, it block off the pickup. When you turn the car off, it drops away from the pickup so when you start it next, the car is fine. Until it gets picked up again.
Catch my drift?

Makes sense. I even thought similar at one point, except now it is happening ALL THE TIME.
The other strange sympton that used to happen, that I mentioned above was that it would surge when the car had been driving for a while, and not with sub 30min trips.
Car is pretty much off the road as im to scared to drive it. No power turning onto a main road could be very dangerous.
I really hope its the pump, and the problem gets sorted tonight.

Interesting. Was it similar to mine, like a full cutout, then the power came back on, or did the car stop reving, but not surge ?
From what ive been told, Dizzy, or spark problems in general wont make the car surge the way mine is, and be alot less agressive.

could it be the fuel pump????? because my mums was surging and wasnt able to get over a certain rpm and it was the fuel pump which then led to a cracked cylinder head.

Ok guys, Gremelin and his brother came over tonight to help me fix the problem. A new fuel pump was fitted which didnt seem to solve the problem. However, the filter on the old fuel pump was as black as black could be, and was filled with dirt. We then thought that some crap got into the fuel lines. We then changed the fuel filter, and, problem solved :).
Just so everyone does know. an Evo fuel pump will fit a Magna, with very simple modifications (ie, less than 5mins worth).
The evo fuel pump is also good for about 180-200kw (At the wheels) in an evo, so, for those looking for a cheap upgrade for their Magna, a second hand evo fuel pump is the way to go.
