well, i've had a couple mates wanting to purchase my muffler off me and also, i have been thinking about getting a new one.
i was thinking of something like one of these.35582 .. YAY or NAY?
if anyone has any recommendations about certain types/brands to try out, please feel free to share.

usually a redback or lukey is the way to go, ive got a lukey not extremely loud but has a nice note from 2k onward and was pretty cheap and a direct fit (10min self fitting). If you do a search there is tonnes of info on exhausts on here.

That one looks funny, i think the tips are too far apart.
But yer go for a lukey, redback or if you wanna get something really good get a magna flow.

i've got a magnaflow cannon on my car
gives the car a nice note at idle and really roars when you put your foot down
but im not saying you should get a cannon but to look at the magnaflow range ;)
only problem is magnaflow costs alittle more

so the magnaflow range seems to have a good rep. might be worth checking them out too.
but i suppose im trying to go for the more 'dori' look with the angled twin pipes.

will probably end up looking like junk after you get 2 nice black burn marks from the exhaust burning the plastic bumper... that look just doesnt do it for me

all too true. i didn't think of that. cheers.
maybe i should consider looking at straight pipes instead.

i know when onkytonk was out and about looking for an exhaust system, Highpoint muffler offered to put on a redback sports muffler onto custom bent 2.5inch pipes. they also offered to try on a variety of mufflers so that he can decided what note/noise level he would like. perhaps go to an exhaust place and ask if they would offer such service.

i've been thinking about just taking the muffler off and getting a bit of pipe + a tip made up. would this be loud or should i just get a straight through put on??

Magnaflow and lukey's are two seperate things... You won't get a magnaflow for $140.
My magnaflow straight through muffler was around $400 alone.

Was the guy who quoted you the price using magnaflow and lukey interchangeably? Because as I mentioned b4 - they're 2 different things.
I would double check exactly what the quote is for. $140 sounds good for a lukey straight through muffler, if thats what he meant - but i still doubt it would be the price for a brand new magnaflow muffler.

Currently i run no muffler, with two resinators. The sound on idle is very Magnaflow like. There is some drone but, originally there was drone doing 80km, however, once the pacemakers went on, the drone was reduced a fair bit.
The car is loud, and be prepared for things rattling in the back (mainly boot and parcel tray). However, once you hear the sound above 4,000 rpm, you will be hooked.

he said either a magnaflow or a lukey will sound good and i can do either of them for $140
the redback is from another zorst shop

i don't want mine too loud, my last car used to attract too munch attention from the boys in blue. I'm not worries about things rattling in the back cause thats what the sub does already lol

If driven past lots of cops, RBTs, random pull overs, and noone has said a word since. You can keep it quite, if your very carefull.
If I can get a hold of a decent mic, ill post a soundclip up here

yeah you're probably right. At least that way i could get the desired note and volume.
anyone know of any good places in adelaide? more so the southern areas?
AAA exhaust is spoken of highly by some of the peeps in Adelaide. I went to Everlast Mufflers which is in Ridgehaven/Golden Grove (NE burbs).
I don't know of too many places that would try mufflers on. It may be easy enough to do a static rev, but underload could be very tinny. Ie the first shot when I got pacemakers and 2.5", sounded awesome when the guy revved it once done. Then it turned to tears when I pulled out onto the road, accelerated and sounded like a someone farting in a milo tin. I changed resonators and got it fixed, but you can only tell after driving under load how it will really sound.
Speak to the peeps in Adelaide who have done their mufflers and have a listen, its probably the best way.

yeah will do. i might post something in the south aus section.
would it be worth the while to save my biky's and go for a cat back system instead?
anyone have any stories to tell from experience?
probably not. Pay $X and get 8% increase, or pay $2*X (twice that of a new muffler for a cat back) and get 9%. If you think that extra little bit is worth it, then knock yourself out. The big restriction is in the muffler, not so much in the piping.

+1 for twin-tip magnaflow oval muffler. Yes it's pricy for a muffler, but IMO money well-spent, you do pay the penalty for skimping here.
Thou to be honest, If I was gonna do it again, I'd give try the 2 or 3 "hotdog" resos with no muffler thing a try first. From what I can tell, it sounds pretty similar to the magnaflow sound.
Althou in my general experience rasping is a problem with running just hotdog resos, and having a quality straight-through rear muffler lets you still have a pretty loud note but keep the rasp in check.

FTR I have heard ar3nbe's car crawling and idling in my driveway, and it sounds fairly similar to my setup, which is the same but with a magnaflow rear muffler as well. I thought at idle/low revs mine had a slightly more pleasant note, but not a hell of alot of difference, and maybe it was just bias :P
To be honest I don't think the magnaflow does a hell of alot, just gives a slightly deeper note at low revs, and keeps rasp in check (thou does your setup rasp at mid-revs Rob?). When I take you for a drive I'd be interested to hear how yours sounds at the midrange and top-end to compare!

Ye, down low that sound very similar Andy, up high however is where I think mine sounds alot different. I have yet to hear a similar sound above 4000rpm, except for a mate who ran the same setup.
However, I would bet that mine drones alot more than yours does, sometimes I get annoyed between 2 and 3000rpm.

you seem to have a very good point. i may as well just stick with a new muffler then.
i still want to go a twin pipe outlet but not sure on which brand.
im looking at maybe $150-$200.
anyone have prices and pics of their muffler? maybe even a sound/video clip?
