Ok, you how the plastic around the instrument cluster is black. Is it hard to repsray it, a DIY job? I aint too crash hot on spraying, but i want to chrome it. Any ideas or suggestions?

i wouldnt

stay black

chrome is very shiny and will reflect into your eyes from the sun!!!!!!!
i think everyone should stay away from chrome!!!!!

the sun pisses me off , it reflects of everything
why make something that will piss you off.........

sorry to ruin your fun......

lol
well i at least want it silver, like it the sports edition.
That makes the black look better, so there is no need to get white dials

hey man,

i have done the exact same thing as you are planning to do!!!

i have resprayed in my car:

Instrument cluster surround
Bit of plastic that you pull of first to get to the instrument cluster - the bit with the dimmer switch toggle and the computer display settings
the plastic around the electric mirror control
the airvents on the drivers side and passenger side
the airvent in the top of the front doors - pain to get out!!
the whole centre console

Mine is coloured light subaru silver and matches very nicley with the green neons i have in my car.

it took me exactly 30 minutes to pull out the instrument cluster - take it apart to spray the piece you are talking about - i only used one coat after giving it a metho wash and and put it back into the car while it was only just touch dry - because there is a piece of plastic in front of it - no-one can touch it so it cant chip or get finger prints.

also my car is a pewter TH - as you can see in the avatar just - and it has various green neons in it.

as for chrome - i wanted to chrome the front grill and the rear boot garnish - but havent been botherd to do so yet!! and i also have the chrome window washer jets with green LEDs in them - and like whitevrx says - when the sun is out they are a pain in the eyes!! also to top of the interior - i have just added green lkuminous white face dials - very funky and fit in nicely with the silver.

if i can get my hands on a camera i will get some pictures!!! i will see if i cant get some before teh weekend.

all i can say about spraying parts of your car is - take your time - do light even coats to prevent drips - alot of people have got into my car thinking the silver was a factory option it is so good (no i am not playing my own trumpet on this one!!!)

where abouts are you man?? i used 2 cans of primer and 5 cans of spray to complete the whole interior - but alot of the stuff has a good couple of coats of each - primer and spray!!

malcom, i used primer / filler, it was soo ****en good
spay was really thick and chunky..

have to sand it back each time, took a long time to get it right,

but the finish is excellant!!!!!!!

i rushed a little bit though.........

i guess its only for covering chips n stuff

but it dryed so hard and i cant scratch it or **** it up (unless i spill shit)

i am in western sydney man,
thanks for the info it really helped. I will try to find a nice silver colour. Do u put a clear coat or anything on top to prevent damage?

i dont think so.....

maybe.. try it

the clear coat may get scratches n stuff

and it will be shiny

shiny = sun reflectionage hehe.....

matt would probally look better....

thge paint i used was an exterior touch up paint so it is made to be durable - i didnt bother with the clear coat as i allowed the primer to set nicely to begin with and have had no problem - i tried the painting on a small piece of plastic first to see if i could get it scratch proof - cos other wise you will be forever repraying!! and that would suck!!

my interior is completely scratch proof and yeah if you want you can sand it back - mine turned out smooth any ways so i didn't need to sand it back!

another tip - never spray from on top of the plastic - always hold the plastic and spray at it from the side - if you are spraying over the top -if the can busts you get shitty drips - happens even if the nozzle gets cloggeed - i have one drip on my centre console - small enough for not many to notice - but enough to piss me off everytime i get into the car - however it isnt enough to warrant pulling it all out again and sanding it back and respraying it - too much effort fo rme!!

oh welll - hope it all works out for you - it changes the entire look of the car!!

Its a piece of piss to get out, just think what might look good today might look dodgey tommorow. so if you **** it up there ain't no going back

It can look pretty cool though if done well.

You know how to get it out right?

I was looking for info on something else and came across this post. ;)

I wanted a silver/chrome surround in my car (silver TJ), so I bought a gauge surround from Emtech. Piece of piss to install and looks very OEM. I've got pics on my PC, but I don't know how to post them up here.

could be what you are after

nothing wrong with a four month late answer =D>

I did mine in astra silver and it looks fat as with a silver car :D

what i did was put a clear primer on first then 4 coats of silver and 4 coats of clear coat finish.

Took about 2 hours but well worth it.

Only problem is a local audio instaler broke all the clips when putting the head unit in and now it keeps popping out of its home :x
