I am unclear for the cause to my Magna TN manual gear change problem. Approaching a roundabout about to change gear I was stuck in neutral unable to gear change (with the clutch). There was no warning.

Up till then I have had trouble free driving (rebuilding the clutch master cylinder a few months earlier and a ongoing noisy thrust bearing i think). Clutch reservoir still full. Gear cables still intact.

Pulling off into a car park I found I couldn't change gear while the engine was running (without force and crunching them). If I switched off the engine I could shift into gears 1-5 or reverse. I could start in a gear, though the car lurched slightly.

I think it may be the pressure plate has anyone faced a similar problem?

Has anyone used a Valeo replacement clutch Kit?

Any ideas on costs?

Thanks in advance

sounds like a number of things. the tension ring on your pressure plates snapped making it unable to release, snapped clutch fork, master cylinder has let go or slave cylinder has let go. do you still have pressure under the clutch pedal??

i would suggest you have a worn clutch. Believe it or not, if your clutch is worn, then you may have difficulty in getting it into gear. Don't ask me why, cos i know the opposite should happen. My dad is a mechanic by trade and has told me this happens quite often.

i had a pplate collapse in my TG gemini once.. with out notice.. just driving along.. went to change.. had to pull the thing out of 4th pretty dam hard.. then just wouldn't do anything.. pedal was just limp.. (thought i'd snapped a clutch cable)

then put in a nice h/duty one (was a 2.0L bored/stroked to 2.4) and bent a clutch fork slightly a few weeks later!! so i corrected it, and welded a bit of a brace on it.. then she was trouble free thrashing..
