Hey guys,
Been a VERY long time since i posted last!
Now i have a problem, my 04 TL Magna makes a loud whining/squeeling sound at Idle and when i move >10kph. Very embarassing at road works and roundabouts!
Now i took it to the local dealer and they gave me some bull**** story about knowing nothing about Mitsu's etc and i cant get it into any other garage for atleast 3.5 months, this town is seriously ****ed up!
So any ideas what it could be?? its done just under 90k Very well maintained etc and i have no idea what im going to do.
the missus reckons the cars angy at me cause im selling it mid year for a new FG XR6 Turbo
Seriously though, help would be very much appreciated!
Cheers
Might even be able to do a recording for you guys if that would be better?

does the noise increase as you rev the car? if it does could be the idler pulley has gone/on its way out, if it isnt could be belt slipping.

could be the same problem some other TL drivers are having
it has something to do with the handbrake mechenism on the rear wheels
one of the discs are warped creating the noise at a low speed
i've had this fixed on mine but the problem has come back

Hey guys,
Now it comes and go's, took the wheels off tightened everything up and checked brakes and discs and all is good.
It doesnt go up when the revs are high, only at idle speed under 10kph with 1k-2k revs.
Strange stuff!

here is an idea, tell it your not going to sell it and if it goes away problem solved, in all seriousness thats just unlucky and how can a dealership not know about mitsubishi's?

Sounds like the handbrake.

It may also be wheel bearings.

It may also be wheel bearings.
in my experience with cars having wheel bearings on thier way out, the noise increases as the road speed increases as well - so the faster you go, the louder the noise is..

I get that ocassionally too, it's my handbrake. When it does it I pull it right up (when stopped of course lol ) and put it back down. Shuts it up for me (till next time).

Well i took it to the Toyota dealer here, they had a cancellation so i was able to get in, otherwise i had to wait till the 16th of June as that was their next available slot to get in, the other 2 places are the same!
Well after 200 bucks and 4 hours "Mate, theres absolutley nothing wrong" so i took him for a ride and wound down the windows so he could listen, "ah thats nothing" " IT's A ****ING WHINING NOISE, its got to be something"
Back to the dealer he put up, took the wheels off and potted around and came back and said he couldn't see anything wrong.
  GRRRRR ****ing useless ****faces, at the moment i'm considering driving to Perth just to get the ****er looked at.
So frustrating, since our mitsubishi/ford dealer closed down there isnt anyone who really specialises in mistus.
Just going to deal with it at the moment, but its coming and going. So will see if it gets any worse if it does well its going to get a nice 1500km drive to Perth to get serviced and checked out.
Could it be the pads squealing because they have worn uneven? Have a look if they look ok pull them off and put a dob of silicon between them and the caliper.
