Wheres the best place to mount one of these on a manual 3.0/3.5L?

Its looks like it would sit nicely on the hole on teh exhaust manifold...or will heat be a problem there?

Ahh, gotchya. How car can it be moved away from the FPR? If I get one I'll be wanting to hide it as it's not going took very stock when an insurance inspector pops the bonnet to have this massive dial thingie staring him down.

Got a pic? It's not fitted yet I take it?

Ive just fitted it to the intake manifold, gauge and all. The pressure valve on the top is pushed down a few mm on the bonet, but its all good It will get hot in the engine bay regardless, let it be a heatsink while its at it :P

taking it for a spin around the block now

Well? Fill us in on operation and let us know how your economy is affected over the next two tanks. How is it operated and what do you need to connect it to etc?

Decent difference, especially in launch and when your at the lower end of things. Ive never seen the trip computer display such high numbers for instantanious fuel consumption either :P Im glad work pays for my fuel! The car is begging for a proper CAI kit now to open things up

trancer,
what other mods have you done to your car....exhaust (hi-flo muffler / cat), throttle body, extractors?

...just curious

ive got a 2.5" mandrel bend redback system, k&n Panel.

Im still waiting on the RPW RD extractors...ordering improved throttle body and k&n pod CAI tomorrow.

interesting, i had mine fitted along with throttle body and K&N pod, so couldnt tell the diff the FSE-FPR made alone, and have been wondering, I actually had a problem with lean running and the problem was made worse getting more air in, -and the FPR didnt help- that was all fixed and dramatically improved once I had my Greddy ECU fitted and dyno-tuned

I'm very interested in getting this done too.

Dave, it would probably come down to the car being monitored on a dyno wouldn't it? Then you could decide whether to go an ECU upgrade or whether an FPR would do the trick.

After setting some landspeed records along some windy hilly roads (from Diamond Creek to YarraGlen to Wandin and back), ive decided its a positive improvement. Launches are harder and smoother, there a decisive improvement when launching. At a few freeway entrances i really thrashed it, (read: more torque steer, ).
With only the catback being done, there was a major flatspot when revs were very low and your starting to accelerate. Also In slow rolling heavy traffic situtations i dont have to ride the clutch as much when sitting in 1/2nd gears.

As for Economy...highway cycle unchanged...around 6.6/100km cruising at around 100-110km/s. City cycle is up the spout mainly cause of the way i drive.

For those that are interested, i got the kit directly from the Australia Distributor at a very good price (went and picked it up from the guys house during work yesterday...gotta love field jobs). Install was a bit of a bitch actually, had to get mechanic mate from down the road to help as instructions were useless (NO pictures in it).

Redav if your still in melb city area ill come and visit you tomorrow and show you

Yup, I'll be here. PM me. Is it adjustable? Someone else had one here which was adjustable.

Off topic but with tuning a Greddy, Unichip or whatever. Do you only tune it for open loop when you've put your foot to the floor?

quick update... just installed a magna-specific K&N POD (half the airfilter box is still intact). Also sealed the resonators between the MAS sensor and the throttle body with heat tape and shoved em back in.

From just an exhaust to POD+FPR+exhaust is a very worthwhile upgrade. pod filters were just made for manuals, the reving sound across the whole range is increadible when you plant it.
