Does anyone here know if you could fit the 3L Engine (140kw I think) from the TE into a TR GLX. Not that I really intend on doing it but I'm just curious. Assuming it fits, what else you would need done to your car and a ballpark price if you are buying the parts individually and getting ur mechanic to fit them. If possible you could turn a 2nd gen Magna into quite a beast. I think Killbilly said he got a V6 that was around 163kw for his 2nd gen magna for under $1000. My question is how? and where? Cos I'm interested :)

P.S. The photos of my car have been taken and I'm just waiting for them to be developed. About time.... Damn I'm slack.

Nah cant be done without spending lots of money.

The TE+ V6's are mounted the opposite way around to the TR/TS V6's and would need a lot of refabrication in the enigne bay to get them to fit.

The TR 4cyl's engine mounts differ from the TR V6's as well. And in about a week's time, I will know for sure if the dohc 24v 6G72 is a bolt in replacement for the sohc 12v 6G72

Oh the engine I have is a DOHC 24v 6G72 3.0l V6. Rated at 220hp (which equates to 163kW)

I think where you might have gotten confused is the 163kW figure is the same as the VRX/Sports motor. It's not the same motor, the VRX is a sohc 24v 6G74 3.5l V6 This dohc whilst having the same power, will have a different torque curve, and a higher redline too (I've heard from various people from 7500-8000rpm!). But a high redline is nothing if there is no power there lol.

As I mentioned in another post that I spoke to a guy from city dismantlers
and he says that he has difficulty selling his DOHC 24V 6G72 because they
require all the accessories that came with the car to run properly and the
Diamantes that are fitted with the DOHC 24V 6G72 have traction/trace
control etc etc so you need to plug in all the sensors otherwise the engine
won't run. The one he has has the full wiring loom, ecu etc but our magna/
verada does not have places to plug in all the wires so to speak.

Thats why you go full aftermarket engine managment, that way not only will it run, but you have a greater scope for improving perfrmance :D

yeh i sorta looked into gettin an engine swap from my 4 cylinder to the 3L v6 a while back but i couldnt find any way for it to be done cheaply. Aparently its called an engineers certificate and its not cheap whatsoeva.

Vlad, not all of them had traction/trace control

KB, how much $ is your new your engine worth? how much $ are you lookin at for the complete engine swap, from start to finish? How easy are these engines to mod?
I know u don't have it in there yet, but a rough idea would be great :D

The manual verions won't have them? But do the DOHC 6G72 even come on a manual car? 3000GT?

Yeah 3000GT had manual versions.

And it depends on the ECU that you hook up to the car as well.

But I talked to a guy who owned a Diamante in the states with the same motor and I asked if he had traction control and his response was "I wish"

I bought it for 650, the guy had no idea...prolly worth about 1200 bucks with ECU I reckon.

Just as easy to mod as the sohc 24v 6G72. Only thing is that cam upgrades cost more..and there is no real need for porting and polishing as they were designed for performance and they're already very high flowing.

Does this also mean the 2.4L engine from the TE won't fit as a replacement for a 2nd gen 2.6L.

How much money are we talking about exactly??
I reckon if you could get something like v6 engine from the TE into a TR/TS for under $5k with relatively good kms and other required parts you could make an absolute sleeper. Especially if you go and put a GLX badge on the back

Mate, seriously...ditch that idea.

I JUST put in (yesterday) a DOHC 24v 6G72 into a TR that already had the V6 in it (sohc 12v 6G72) and it is a BOLT IN conversion. No shit, the manual gearbox bolts up, the driveshafts bolt in. The only thing you'll need is a new ecu and wiring loom.

Just make sure when you get it either you get a front cut so you get all of the stuff in one go, or get the ecu, wiring loom and engine from the same car. There are two types of loom, so you have to make sure you get the right one, I didnt and hence I have to get one made.

The dohc 24v 6G72 is 220hp (163kW) and a bigger rev range than the sohcs as well. It's more potent than the 3.0l from the TE (sohc 24v 6G72) that's for sure.

Sweet! Yeah i have actually ditched the idea hehe. Souns like ur TR is a bit of a beast now for a 2nd gen magna. Would love to know your times for 0-100km/h and 400m. I'll stay tuned. I also believe the TR/TS magnas are about 50kg lighter than the TE's etc.

I'll let everyone know about times/dyno power etc when it's all done for sure :D

Try and get a complete front cut, you then just swap wiring, mechanicals etc over into your v6 body, is always the easiest way to do it

Cheers for the advice. Will look into this in about a years time, possibly 2 when I've finished uni and amon $40k a year (hopefully) :D

You could have deleted that post. Not now though

What are you doing at uni and you're expecting 40k just on leaving uni? Gee, I'm in the wrong field.

I will definitely second that, it's more expensive..but shit it saves you headaches!
