My mates left crossover started smoking and then a strange siren sound came from the speakers. I disconnected them and checked the amp for damage and i could smell a resistor burning in the amp.

Not sure if it was the amp that stuffed up first or the crossovers but anyways, he is going to buy a new amp and another crossover to replace the blown one.

Would this work out OK ? or would i need to replace both the crossovers so i dont have any problems with the new amp ?

you would need to make sure that they are both similar
same freq, same power etc.
might be best to wait until he gets a new one
