Guy's, the fan in our TP Elite with climate control has just stopped working. I cannot find any fuse for it, which seems rather strange, but as our weather has now had a slight downturn in temp, I really need to get this going. As the car has climate control, is there anything that may be special in the fan operation. It has the digital dash setup, with that unusual slider control on the left side of the steering cluster. The A/C works, or should I say the compressor kicks in, but no fan runs in the interior. Basically I just want to fault find in the hope it is something easy, at least till I get to the probable obvious, buggered fan unit. If anyone has any info on where a fuse might be, and in worse case how to replace the fan motor, could you let me know please.

under the glovebox is the fan there is a fan relay that has 3 coils
the coils break and you loose the fan speeds

the slider on the left should be the dash light dimmer if it is a wing controller

the cigarette lighter/hu are on linked to the same fuse, i think. if they arnt working also, replace the fuse

Climate control doesn't use the resistor coils.

sounds like either the motor has given up, or the power transistor isn't providing power to the motor. i'm assuming that when you have the switch on 'auto', the little display (being a tp elite) still is showing green and orange arrows. if you dont even have that display working, then the problem is with the climate control unit itself, or the fuse for it.

Beachy I found the solution to another problem

1 TN, 1 TP & 1 TS. <-----

sell the TS and buy another first gen

With climate control there can be a few things.

From memoy in the wiring for the fan motor there is a little black box, will have written on this 15a and 5a spare. This is a fuse for the fan motor, the non climate have this as well. This can be the first thing.

If no go, umplug the fan motor, test for power to the fan, if you have power, get a new fan box, it is the box closest to the pass side kick panel.

If no power and the inline fuse is ok, you will need to work back to the switch, test there, remember it is basically a variable resistor. If all good there, there is a control unit for the climate, this is not common to go but can. From memory this is attached to the front of the heater box, I may be wrong as it is a while since I scabbed an elite lol

i believe this inline fuse (behind the glovebox) is more to do with the airconditioner, as cars without a/c wont have this fuse.

in climate control, the motor uses Pulse Width Modulation to control fan speed. the switch basically is a signal to the control unit.

mine failed when i had a leak from my heater core. be sure to replace it with a box from a TP, even though the TN box has two plugs and will fit, they are different (the display will no longer work with a TN one, etc)

While this a TP Elite, my dash is apparently a TN Elite type, it is just on the change over from TN to TP, so I figure they used the older dash in the early TP's, this means I cannot see this display.

Buffy your all heart, sell me TS no way!:D

Thanks for the info re tracing the faults Mad Magna, although I am wondering if I do have to replace the control unit, whether I get the TN one as my dash is the TN Elite one and not the TP Elite control unit. Test the wires is my first priority.

Daughter says she may want to sell the car now as she is looking at going back to Germany nannying. Anyone interested in an Early TP Elite all good except for heater fan.

forgot to mention, on 'hi' a relay bypasses the power transistor and applys full 12v to the blower motor. if this isn't the case, i'd say your blower motor is stuffed.

Hey Madmagna, take a look at the pic's in the first gen topic "So what is it" on the second page, near the bottom :). There is a few pictures of the Elite Wagon I am referring too LOL. Not trying to push to sell, but as I was saying my daughter is thinking of selling as she wants to go overseas to work again.

Just an update so that anyone else who has 1st gen Elite with climate control has some idea's.
The fault was the fan motor itself, but this was also coupled with a failure if the vacuum switches that control the vents. There is some power switches in there, that one of the springs failed on and it bridged the circuit. Not sure if it was the cause for the motor to burn out!
I searched high and low for an Elite locally with no joy. I ended up getting a normal fan unit from a TP, that worked OK, but ended up at U pull it for the 4th time in a week, to get the Elite switch block.
Got that and an Elite radio cassette head unit with the remote from the steering wheel just for fun. Installed the replacement vent control unit fired it all up and all worked well. Even got the radio to work via the steering wheel.
If anyone ever replaces the switch block in an Elite, not the numbers on the vacuum lines as they will save you a lot of headache if you remember the sequence. Everything else was relatively soimple to undo.
Cheers and thanks to everyone for the help they provided in sorting this one.
Cheers, Jeff
