hey guys, my engine in my auto TF is starting to get a bit old, 270000kms
and im looking for some more power, so ive been looking around for a 3.5L conversion
at a good price, i found a burnt out AWD TL, and it doesnt appear that the fire reached the engine, is it possible to use the AWD engine/gearbox to put in my TF, and just not connect the drive rear shaft to the gear box, so still keeping it FWD
or even just the engine?

gearbox no i believe, engine yes. i think the engine has the same power as VRX?

anyway i think it should be fine with just the engine, but i would certainly check out if the fire reached or hurt anything anywhere near the engine bay.

There are cheaper options. Find a 3.5L with the appropriate FWD gearbox... or better yet, a manual box ;)

Probably because it's the same engine.

yeah but i was more-so getting at my TH has the same engine as a VRX, and it does not posess the same power.

engine is the same, gb is different. i tihnk there was an issue with swapping the GB's on the awd's

no sorry that was finding an appropriate box for a manual awd.

From what I have read there is a shaft block off plate available for the GSR's etc, is basically a shaft, bearing and plate.

Fire damage is usually not a real issue, have used plenty of fire damaged engines before. Just replace all external gaskets.

Only thing is you will not have ecu etc so may be better off getting a complete economical write off

Sorry to be off topic, but if you go to check this wreck out again can you see if those foggies are in working order and what you can get them for? Cheers mate.

Once again, same engine, different exhaust and iirc something to do with ecu tune.

Oh and that flash engine cover :doubt:

i was kinda hoping i could use the box, since it being from an EVO it would be quite a bit stronger than a reqular magna box. just out of couristy how come the AWD box wont work, even if i make it use the FWD drive shafts only?

being the AWD a regular 3.5 ECU should be ok to run it?
as i know the ECU controls a engine and gear box, and the AWD having a evo box, however they both use INVECS II so it should be ok????
how about a 3.0L with a piggyback ecu?

I'm not confident it's an actual evo box...

me either. from what i believe the AWD has AWD components from the evo, ie, rear and centre diff.
This is also why the AWD gearbox wont work as FWD only. It will want to transfer the power to the wheels that are slipping, and as far as it would be concerned, the rear wheels would be the ones slipping, as they are not connected. As others have suggested, get a manual, much easier and better too.

yeah thats what i thought, it came from the EVO VII gta (grand touring automatic) it was only realeased in japan, and it uses INVECS II

if the wheels are slipping, wouldnt it want to transfer the power away from thoes wheels to stop the slipping, and send power to the front?

If a wheel is slipping, adding more power would just make it worse?
so in theory the rear drive is not present, there is no load(ie spinning wheels) it should send the power to the front, this is distrubited by the center viscious coupling differential

my main concern is getting the engine to work, because i wouldnt have the ECU? and im not sure if i would have to find another ecu from a AWD or a normal 3.5, or would my 3.0L ecu with a piggy back work?????? need help guys!
