hey guys im thinking of doing the wiring myself for my amp.
planning on just wiring up the front speakers for now, and just running the cable for the subs till i can actually get them installed.

now this is what i have:
HU: alpine cda-9883e
splits: alpine type-s
amp: response aa-0426 (2x130WRMS@4 Ohm + 2x190WRMS@2 Ohm)

this amp has RCA inputs for all four channels so i was just gonna use those.
with the outputs it only has RCA outputs for two of those channels
should i run speaker wire for the splits and use the rca output for the subs, or vice versa?

is this sounding alright atm? also just wondering what wiring kit i would need to set this all up, can anybody help me.

the rca output is for amp linking,

you need speaker wire for all the speakers :)

it should have 2 sets of RCA inputs in the amp, one for the front and one for the rear, the output is for linking of amps
the RCA's are used to transfer the signal from the deck to the amp
you'll need to then run speaker wire from the amp to the speakers/subs
grab a 4channel wiring kit, make sure it has 4ga power wire ;)

will go grab that tomorrow. oh wait. late night shopping. might go get it now.
cheers.

im on way with installing the amp atm. but there is one thing i am unsure about which is, wtf is the blue trigger cable for?

Ok what you will need:
Power cable - Usually Red, provides the power.
Earthing cable - Usually Brown, should be the same ga as the power, earths the amp.
Remote trigger - Blue, turns the amps on.
RCA - Low level signal for the amps to reproduce from the headunit.
Speaker wire - High level signal, helps the speakers a little to make noise...

Perhaps you should seek some help if your not 100% confident.

You should find a blue cable on the deck as well I think, otherwise look in the manual and see which one is the remote wire. The head unit sends a signal through this wire to turn the amps on, otherwise they will be running the whoel time even when the car is off and therefore will drain the battery (amp power is connected directly to the battery remember).

I think you should be right to do it yourself, though if you have a mate who has done it before it would be really good, just to make sure its all good, I was a bit worried about shorting something with the electronics, but once you see it done its fairly easy, though it can still take some time.

Yeah the Alpine has 2 blue wires, one for the remote turn on and one for the aerial, be sure to hook it up to the correct one or your amps will only turn on when your listening to the radio :bowrofl:

The alpine has a Blue wire, and a Blue wire with a white stripe.

The one for the remote I believe (from memory) is the blue with the white stripe. However, check your manual, and it will tell you 100%.

cheers for all that guys.

i miss daylight savings. need the extra light. was dark by 6 :(.

but ive got all the carpet up now. most the cable have been run the length of the car, so just gotta get my power cable through the firewall, which has taken me forever to figure out, but i think ive found the grommet on the drivers side so i will try that first thing.

not sure how to screw down the amp yet. eh. will work that out when i get to it.

oh yeh, its is recommended to run the power cable seperately to everything else isn't.
if thats the case, what did you guys run and where, atm, i have all the cables except the power down the passenger side and the power cable down the drivers side.. but the battery is on the passenger side. gah.

hmm. eh. im sure i can work it out tomorrow.
im thinking of using the grommet where the clutch would be, but the power cable runs under the drivers feet atm, would this get damaged here?

I and most people just have the amps sitting there if you are putting them under the seats. They dont usually go anywhere even with heavy g forces.

Sounds like you have run the wires pretty good, in my car the power wire is down the drivers side and the rest down the centre console. output speaker wires go down the drivers/passengers sides also though.

I dont think your cable would get damaged if its under carpet, its pretty tough stuff. As long as there is nothing sharp or extreme pressure on it or rubbing on it. But make sure you accelerator pedal can still go all the way down.

i've got the power wire running down the passenger side and the speaker/RCA cables running down the drivers side
just keep in mind to keep the RCA's away from any power wires always you'll get engine noise, i used to have it really bad :doubt:

yeh i read that somewhere, thats why i pulled it from the passenger side and moved it to the other side.

make sure you are running the RCA cables and the power cables away from each other, ideally on the opposite sides of the car, otherwise youll get whats called "engine noise". the earth wire needs to be as short as possible and be bolted directly onto the body of the car, i prefer to use existing threads. remove paint around them if needed.

Ive done many installs with power wire and RCA's on the same side and its perfect.
Pretty sure as long as you use car audio RCA's (the shielded ones) You will be fine.
Use cheapo home RCA's and hello engine noise

id rather be safe than sorry.. id hate to pull everything apart just to get it and have to pull everything apart again

besides, i ran all my wiring through those white things under the trim which keep everything in place and found that they are a bit small to run the entire batch with speaker wire, 3RCA's and remote wire. same with the 2 runs of power wire i have running along the stock wiring loom on the right hand side.

but sure, if it works for you then thats all that counts :)

SWEET!!! ALL DONE!

hmm. need to tune it a bit but.

at the moment gains are about 50%. to late to test it any louder.
but i havn't set my hpf for the splits yet.
should i set hpf to about 100Hz or is that to high?

not sure how to configure the deck yet. going through that now.

u should hp your fronts at around 75-80hz for s-types
as for the gains... turn them all the way down... turn deck up to about 80% of max volume...then turn gains up till the speakers start distorting and turn it back a tiny bit
you now have levels set:)

Yeah that is the best way to set your gains.

What HP Hz you set will depend on the slope your xover can provide. If it is 12db/oct I would push it a little higher 80-100Hz. But play with it and see how you like it. :D

well i know my crossover does from 50-500hz but thats all.
sounds so much better then before but. just need those sub boxes now.
