Next question - was pondering the parents impending road trip up north in their new TS wagon, and thinking about the numerous TR/TS SE Magnas sitting at the self serve wreckers when i was last there.

Apart from the obvious stuff like the steering wheel with the cruise buttons, and the control module that lives on the firewall above the master cylinder, whats involved in putting the SE cruise system into an auto 2.6 Executive? The big question here is - is the wiring already there?

I am retrofitting factory cruise into my 4 cylinder Renault Laguna from the V6 model, and ALL the wiring is already there making it a plug in job basically. Is the Magna like this?

If the cruise in the exec is like the windows, door loghts etc, the wiring will not be there.

Sadly in the 2nd gen there are 11 (from memory) different wiring looms depending if manual, auto, range and if verada

In theory it would not be hard to strip the wiring out of the SE and use the cruise parts, I am sure that people have done this here before.

11??! right. that answers that one then!!

I think in my model of Laguna there are about 10-15 variants in europe (only 2 made it here) and they have maybe 2 looms between them - economies of scale meant it was cheaper to make less types and apply them to all models.

A whole lot more Lagunas were built than Magnas mind you, but that should make it more of an imperative to rationalise parts here i would have thought... I have long since learnt not to wonder why a french engineer does anything the way they do - may have to apply that thinking to japanese ones lol

ah well. cant say it would be worth the effort if i have to swap looms as well....

what signals will the cruise need to run?

They're a pretty simple circuit.

Could do as with power windows instead of refitting a loom just feed the signals needed.
