Does your headunit have any sort of auxillary input on the front? My DEH-6850MP has a 2.5mm input on the faceplate. I've hooked my iPod up to that before because I'm too lazy to buy the proper iPod adapter. Obviously you can't control the iPod through the headunit, and it won't recharge the battery, but it's only $10-$15 from DSE (2.5mm -> 3.5mm adapter, and then a 3.5mm male to male cable).
It's currently out of stock, but MEA stock an aftermarket iPod adapter in their online store (http://www.mobileelectronics.com.au/store/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=8), and it's only $40.

Dude I got a price for the CD-IB100II from ryda.com.au. They sell them for $120 and have full Australian warranty. If you don't live in Sydney, print out the item and take it to Autobarn.. as they say " We will never knowingly be under sold, bring in a geniune price and we will match it". That's what I did and they matched it :D

Easy as dude, you have a constant 12V wire and an earth wire. Hook them up where you can, I just used the headunit harness. There is the I bus cable which will need to go the rear of the headunit and the other end to the box. The box will have a fixed Ipod cable coming out, put that where you want, hook it up and your away.
My 8g Nano has a few problems coming off the adapter to be Synced, it keeps freezing. I know how to re-set it off by heart now lol. :D
