hey guys
i've got an '01 tj vr-x which i had serviced today, and I asked them to rotate the wheels so the newer ones are on the front. as soon as I drived it away the "check engine" light started coming on intermittently, and the "TCL OFF" light stays on ie no traction control.
does anyone have any ideas what might be causing this? are you supposed to do something special when you rotate wheels on cars with traction control?
help!!

They could be diagnostic codes. I know when I recently had my Verada in for a ATF replacement, they forgot to reset the diagnostic codes and my TCL Off light was lit up. I'd check that.

Check the wheel speed sensor cable, it may have been dislodged when they rotated the wheels. I had a faulty wheel speed sensor at one stage & had a similar thing happen.

Either that, or the speed sensor ring on the CV joint.
The sensor is magnetic, so it might even have some steel dust or something similar on it, which would cause problems.

Any good news regarding this issue??
I might need some help here from the collective brain that is AMC... !!!!
(02 TJ VR-X series 2 tippy auto)
Mine has been showing the TCL OFF light (Usually First to light up) and the CHECK ENGINE light shortly after.
Seems to do it on hotter days (Basically 26+ degrees) especially when stuck in traffic.
Car does not change in the way it drives. all power is still there, doesn't shake or do anything except drive with these two lights.
Goes away when you turn it off and let it cool.. (Next day etc)
I've changed the TCL Vacuum Solenoid Valve ( It was buggered per the manual's inspection procedure)
I've checked and cleaned all the wiring, plugs and sensors that make up the ABS/TCL system. (That included a LOT of Ferrous buildup on the wheel sensors!!!
Blasted all vacuum lines with compressed air.
Still to no avail.
Even Mitso during the past two services haven't found anything.
Comes up with code #73 and #72
I'm thinking the TCL ECU??
Has anyone else run into this problem??? What was the fix (Apart from burning it)
If you can help please post here or PM me....
Thanks in advance!!

Cleaning the ABS sensors had no effect....
Seems that the alternator is at fault... (Check the 3rd Gen Magna forum)
Cleaned the plug and the big positive connection and it hasn't come back ..... yet!! Even with a stinker like today.
Will keep everyone posted....
It's a bit like the stalling magna thing... BEM and the brown wire.... one of those issues that Magna's have.

I had this problem on very hot days last xmas. Check engine light would come on and then the TCL Off light would come on, always with aircon on. When I turned the car off and let it sit for a few minutes or so and restart, the problem would go away until I used the brakes on 80kph roundabouts etc with aircon on, but the lights did not come on with the aircon off.
I suspect a combination of excessive heat at the wheels from the brakes as well as voltage drain from the aircon on the near dead battery was playing up with the TCL/ABS circuit sensors. I changed the front pads and put in a new high performance battery (the old one was 7 years old and factory original) and I haven't had the problem since.
