View Full Version : TF Magna hi stop brake light - how to get the bulb out?
Hi All. Interesting problem that I haven't struck in a car before.
I noticed when I was getting the wheels aligned and balanced a few weeks back that the hi stop wasn't working. So, undid and dropped the cable out to find the bulb wasn't in place. Put a new bulb in and tested OK.
When I went to pull the old bulb out, I couldn't - because the bulb won't fit through the hole!! How do I get the bulb out without pulling the back seat and parcel tray out???
I would leave it there - but it's moving about and making an annoying rattle. Although, it does get caught in the new bulb at times and blocks half the light.

Mine did this, actually turns out the old bulb had expanded while in there. (Visible expansion of the glass on one side) I had to take the entire fitting apart to get at it, although there may be an easier way.
Just been out to have a look. From what I can see;
- remove back seat
- remove all 3 kids car seat bolts
- remove parcel tray
- undo hi stop bulb (from in boot)
- undo hi stop light fitting
- remove dead bulb
then re-do the above in reverse order. There has to be a better way.
On the flip side; think I've just found what the annoying occasional reverb noise from the back window is :) The parcel shelf has a small bit of play in it - about 4-5mm.
Not going to tackle today, will do next weekend. Although, it looks like the bulb has jammed into one side.
Wonder if I could break the bulk with long nose pliers then pull the bits out?
Regards, Tony

Break the old bulb with a pair of pliers, and vacuum out? Radical, but it might work?

Now I feel bad because that sounds really rough and dodgy.:doubt:
I can just see the look on my wifes face when she sees me trying that with our vacuum cleaner!
