Hey all, I've decided i'm going to do something with my 02 LE's stereo.

The cone in one of the rear speakers is shredded (NFI how!) and i'm looking to replace that. I've also been thinking of replacing the head deck with something newer.

I want a good sound quality. I do not want to share my taste in music with everyone within 1.5km.

Can you guys recommend a head deck that has either USB, mp3 or RCA (audio only to hook up my N95) and will give a decent quality of sound.

I may be adding an amp and/or a sub in the future as well.

Also any horror stories on what/where to avoid in Sydney would be appreciated too.

Thanks.

The JVC-BT1 head unit that TUFFTR has is an excellent example of a cheap and effective headunit, and connecting his N95 to it would be an absolute breeze with the Bluetooth functionality.

Focal Access front speakers ;) You know you want to.

Got some Focal Access speakers in my car, though im upgrading, they are some impressive speakers. I have the 5 inch models, and they just take any power you give them. I am giving them heaps more than their rated power but they love it, fairly loud by themselves and a sub, nice SQ.

Hopefully this weekend though these will unfortunatly be run of the deck as I chuck them in the back and replace them with Focal K3P's

+1 JVC.
Also, I don't have much experience, but I bought a pair of $105 pioneer 6x9's, 80wrms, 3 way, and they run fine off the deck, and they have some mean ass sound quality too, I thought it was a rather good buy. Just a suggestion.

Good luck!

I'm assuming you have a reasonably tight budget, so I would spend the money in the following order:

Headunit: JVC $200-$350
Front Speakers: Entry level Morel, Hertz, Boston etc Better to get an entry level speaker from these good quality brands than a flashy speaker from Sony/Pioneer/Kenwood etc. Allow $200-$300

That will sound quite nice. But if your budget will allow it an amp and wiring kit for about $350 will make a world of difference. A Response amp from Jaycar will do the job perfectly. JB HIFI sells Stinger wiring kits which are quite good.

THEN if you have the money get some Response 6x9 speakers for the back and run them from your headunit. Personally though I would run only the fronts and save for a sub and amp. Rear speakers are only to shut passengers up.

Hope that helps. I could expand and give some specific model recommendations with a decent idea for a budget.

Cheers
Pete

I bought them 2nd hand off ebay, together with a very nice soundstreamp amp. (van gogh, 125w x 4) for $600!!! And this all very thanks to member GRD Puck who kindly picked them up for me and posted them interstate. Read the thread in the Victoria section.

Have been very busy recently though, and am going to install with a mate and do a high quality install with large amounts of dynamat etc, so I need to set aside a good day at least to get it all done. Will post some pics and info up here when its done.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

The budget is pretty tight at the moment, i'm just trying to get some suggestions for when the tax cheque arrives in a couple of months.

I like the idea of bluetoothing my phone to the head deck, however the battery life on an N95 is shocking at best so something with L&R RCA style conns or a usb interface would suit better.....

Any more suggestions?
