View Full Version : EL Dials, Voltage?

I was wondering if someone could do me a huge favor and find out what voltage the inverter on the EL dials puts out.

Anyone with a multimeter will be able to do so, you just need to set it to Volts(DC), unplug one of the gauges from the loom, and touch the 2 pins on the input plug to find voltage. Though I expect whoever helps e out would already know that :)

As the inverters that come with it are such poor quality with such a high fail rate, I plan on making a higher quality power supply with dimming capabilities, because we all know how damn bright they are at night!

If all goes well I should be able to either provide info on how to, or supply them to people who want them.

Cheers,
Damon

Ask Magtech (http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58419), he might be willing to as hes selling the dials anyway :)

Are we talking about the EL dials with the MPH? That are blue & Red in colour?
My inverter died within 2 months also, it just turns itself off randomly. So i ordered another through ebay, and has now worked for almost 2 years i think. Best part is.. it came with dimmer and switch to change its colour slightly :)

Been trying to find another seller of those inverters just in case this one breaks. So far no luck.

nexus, you must have something different to the rest of us.. the standard ones from the group buy dont even have the ability to do dimming :)

as for the voltage... anyone? 30 seconds of effort for a big result!

one last attempt at getting someone to measure the voltage...

EL panels are basically a lossy capacitor with a phosphor between the two plates.

115V @ 400-600hz is a good place to start.
