I wouldn't say top, but they make pretty good stuff. I think they were better in the ol days. I think they are pretty hard to find here too, and for the money you can probably get better though. Saying that however, had pretty much no experience with them, just other knowledeable people's thoughts.
For head unit I would say pioneer or alpine. Just noticed a lot of new pioneer's are black, a bit less fancy looking but would probably suit the factory look or your average interior better.
Head unit I would really recommend you stick to those brands, though speakers and amp you have a massive choice. I think give us a budget and some people will be able to recommened something specific for you.

Autobarn are now distributors of Rockford Fosgate gear.
The top of the range stuff, i.e. "Power" series rival Alpine, Focal etc... but really pricey!
If you're considering Rockford Fosgate, you may want to consider DD Audio (Rockford also sell this). Bang for your buck guaranteed

i remember when ricebarn first got the soundstream contract i wandered in to my ocal and asked about a van gogh 4 chan and they guy looked at me stupidly like he had nfi what i was on about

depends on what autobarn iu know auobarn arent authorised alpine resellers but chirnside park stocks it and i think hoppers crossing does as well... the guys at chirny know whats going on with audio... as much as you with the not so great range they have

Suggestions in no particular order...
Front speakers - 6.5" or 6" will both fit. But if you want quality I would get custom MDF mounts made to replace the factory plastic ones.
DD
Hertz
Boston
Morel
Focal
Amps (mono for sub and 2 channel for fronts)
Alpine
Focal
Rears - I personally wouldn't get them if you are going for SQ. If you insist though get some 6x9s and just run them off the headunit but faded nearly all the way off.
Cabling - Run 0 or 2 gauge to the boot. Fuse it close to the battery (add up all the fuses in your amps and get a fuse that is a little less so that it provides double protection for the amps).
Also DONT FORGET TO SOUND DEADEN!!! Your car is a tin can and will sound much better once some serious sound deadening is completed.

Hmmm if you get cost:
Headunit - JB
Mono - JB
Cabling - JB
Speakers... NOT JB.
Fleebay suck balls.
You may see a trend in speakers being recommended.. it's up to you whether you want to go listen.
Oh ill add Oz Audio to the list as well with there Vector 6inch splits.

Like most shops, if they don't have there and then, they can order it. Most of the time, they have low to mid range stuff on hand.
my MTX 6x9's and 6.5"s go pretty hard, very good sound

Rockford is very over priced, and not really worth the money. Ive got a bit of car audio experience, and have never been interested in any of the (new) Rockford stuff. Similarly, they havnt done to well in any of the Australian, and even Overseas sound quality comps (nor SPL comps in Australia either).
There is better for the money.
