Hey guys, i've noticed that there's a few members on here that have a custom boot setup and i wanted to know how they went about doing it as i really wanna do something similar to mine... i can't stand the sight of wires and stuff in my boot :P

In particular it would be great if anyone could share some dimensions of the pieces required to set it all up as well as a rough price guide.

here are a few examples of what i mean:

when i done my boot install i just used the carpet in the boot and layed it out on some 6mm mdf, traced it around and cut it out
from there i worked out how i was going to set out my install
found out roughly where it would go then measure inside the boot for the height
it's a basic boot install sort of like the examples you have given
didnt cost me much to do the full install, well wood wise ;)
shouldnt cost you more then $150 if you do it yourself

When we originally did Bonnie's (eaglerock18's) boot we really focussed on not loosing to much boot space with the back panel and manged to gain another 6-8 inches deep on the other 2 that you have shown. we used 10mm mdf for the floor and back panel, and we used 3mm for the sides to allow flex so it could be 'bent' around the boot hinges while still lining up with the sides at the top of the boot if you know what i mean.

total cost for the panels was $108 including the white vinyl, foam for underneath and the mdf.

Mr roberto summed it up Omar, Although my boot installs so far have been massive fails I've learnt what to do 4th time around.
Get an idea in your head though of where you want things.
I now know not to place anything behind the taillight as when a bulb goes its REALLY HARD to change.
False floor is where its at man. Lets you keep your spare tyre (sometimes) and you can have have access to behind the tails :)

Yeah i've got an idea, and i defiantly wanna have access to the spare tyre.
For now all i really need is the back part of the boot done, the sides are fine coz i dont really have a huge amount of audio gear in there, just a 12" Sub and Amp

Thing is aswell, if you make an MDF Floor, and cover it, its real hard to get the carpet to match the mistu one on the rear wheel wells..
You could do it a million ways, Mount the amp on the side on an MDF panel against the side, mount the sub in the middle of the boot....you going to make a box or get something custom made or you keeping the stock one?

how do you guys fix the mdf to the metal floor?? or do you just measure it to fit tight and use friction??

The sheet of MDF weighs a ton man. How i have it now it just fits snugly into the shape of the boot - doesnt move an inch.

mines pretty much just sitting there, havent got around to fixing it down to the floor
it's heavy enough as it is so it doesnt move around much and i made it abit tight on the side panels to stop them flapping around
i still have full access to my spare without having to pull the install apart, just lift the carpet (cut the carpet so it can be flipped back) and pull out the bit of mdf
the only thing is that when i have to change the globes in the tail lights i have to undo 2 screws then slide the panel towards me then push it towards the front of the car abit
i went for a different look and done the install in black suede

Mine is all kind of "wedged" in. side panels go in first, then the back panel, and finally the floor drops in to hold it all in place. No screws needed:)

umm im not too sure about that yet, i was thinking of making my own box actually, coz the box that the sub came in is a weird shape that wouldn't fit right.

here's my plan

http://img104.imageshack.us/img104/5578/bootny3.jpg

Basically the piece of wood (or whatever i use) will be cut into 3 sections, 1 for the sub, 1 for the amp and 1 which will open like a door so i can still use my ski port if needed.

For those of you guys who have done this, do those dimensions look right, i took some quick measurements tonight.

With the bit where the amp is, if you make it so there is a Beauty Board in front, you can still use the space behind the amp for storage (As the amp will have to be screws on something solid)
