Believe it or not there is a story behind Bentvalves...

Driving home a few weeks ago I took off from the lights and noticed a massive difference in induction noise - the type of sound you would expect from a pod filter but coming thru the std airbox... slightly worried I continued on my trip home.

About 1 km from home the engine started pinging on heavier throttle so I switched back to petrol (from LPG) and the pinging got worse. I pulled over to check it all out and nothing seemed out of place so i limped it home.

Pulled up to the garage and turned off the engine for a quick inspection... still nothing so I started it again. Bent valves!

With the rocker cover off it was obvious... all 8 inlet rockers were limp and it makes zero compression! The timing belt tensioner pulley had failed and let the belt skip a few teeth!

So... after spending money on a new bonnet, new front bar, new radiator, new condensor, new water pump, brand new LPG kit, nice stereo, 4 new tyres I now have a big grey pile of parts that won't move and is due for rego...

Sell it?
Fix it?
Burn it?

I have found a 2nd hand engine very cheap but after the engine and rego next month, I will have just spent another $1000 on a car thats worth $500
Its kind of a spare car so I am in 3 minds as to what I will do with it!

What kind of car is it?
I would fix it man.
If its a 2nd gen Re-co heads go for about $800+ Some new valves + VRS kit and if its a 3rd gen i guess ralliart heads would be the way to go...
Thats some CRAP luck there man i hope you get it sorted out real quick

One head should be cheaper eh?
Hunt around a wreckers mate, if you can find a 2nd hand engine, might work out cheaper then recoing the head of this one

Any suggestions for Mitsu specialist wreckers in Sydney (or is this another thread)
Anyone got a spare 2.4 head kicking round?
Anyone want to tow it away?

4G63 DOHC head... do it man... bolt on ftw.

Easily found in any Galant GSR 2L. Might be able to find you one but I'm not sure how much it'll be.

i also vote for fix it.

you have allready spent a fair bit of money on it getting it to how you wanted it / legal etc, so why not throw more money at it?

itl be worth more running then not as well should you decide to sell it.
people like being able to drive away thier new cars...

I am with Trotty, if you want to keep a Magna, get a v6, use your good parts and then wreck the rest out.

Most of the gas should go over the v6, not sure if there is a big difference as I know jack about gas aside from that it is a pain when it starts playing up and the tank takes up too much space!

You could fix but no offence, unles you are after a 4cyl, these cars are far too big and heavy for the 4cyl and should never have come with that option in the first place

I could not have said it better myself (no offence to the other 2.4 owners out there!)

The Sprintgas LPG system is great though - it wires into the ECU and starts on petrol then switches over - it monitors the O2 signal and makes mixture adjustments on cruise - runs like a dream and $25 worth of gas gets me almost 500km on the freeway

Bootspace is alright I guess - have to make a commitment to compromise!

As for acceleration... wouldn't pull a sailor off ya sister but its not about tyre-frying speed, its about comfort and economy. Would definately suit a V6 if anyone is interested.

I just want to get the bastard out of the driveway!
