Have recently had the rear muffler changed on my 3.0 tf magna due to there being a great big rust hole in it. When i had it changed the guy said that it needs a new cat aswell as the cat lowers the emissions and stops condensation which is why the muffler rusted out. Now ive never heard that a cat stops the condensation forming in the exhaust. Not sure what to do. don't really want to fork out for a new cat unless i really need to
Any advice would be appreciated
Whats a new cat likely to set you back? I know someone who just got this changed on a 2004ish Barina and it set him back $2900, surely wouldn't be anything like that on a Magna would it?

get a hi flow cat, from memory couple hundred bucks, someone who has bought one more recently will be able to help you more, which is about the same price as a new one from mitsubishi lol.

do you have a bad egg type smell i believe it is, if not your cat should be fine!
Edit: or if you hit the cat with your hand and it rattles tells you if the honeycpomb is broken

got a 3" metallic magnaflow cat for $100 on ebay. Gave the exhaust a better note too. Just needs flanges welded on to fit.

Do you do heaps of short trips? The cat should be fine, but as said above, give it a tap with your hand (when cold :) ) and see if it rattles.

I've been an exhaust fitter/fabricator for almost 6 years and can tell you that, that exhaust fitter is talking out of his ****. Condensation is formed when your car is cold and left over night is an area that gets condensation i.e. if Due forms on your grass on cold mornings.
have you ever seen a car running early in the morning with steam coming out the exhaust??? thats the water boiling out. the cat has nothing to do with the water in your exhaust. there are only a few ways of telling if your cat is stuffed and just by seeing water in an exhaust system isn't one of them. He's trying to rip you for a new cat, Don't do it.

As mentioned above. You should see mine in the morning... more so on lpg. Anyway if it aint broken dont fix it. Sounds normal.. If you want a cat go the the RSPCA they will give you a live one.
