Hey,

I just wanted to ask you guys a question.

I'm after an amp that'll run a Sony XHP 12" SUB (1200W MAX XSL121P5) and my 6X9s.

Would a CLARION 400w amplifier (APX400) be able to do this?

Here are the specs of the amp:

# Maximum Power Output: 400 W (4 x 100 W into 2 ohms at 0.2% THD 1kHz)
# Continuous Average Power Output 200 W (4 x 50 W into 4 ohms, 20 - 20 kHz, 0.05% THD
# Continuous Bridged Power 200 W x 2 into 4 ohms, 20 -20 kHz, 0.05% THD
# Bass Extender Control 0-18 dB at 45Hz
# Adjustable 4-Channel 55 Hz - 5.5 kHz, 12dB/oct High/Low Pass Crossover
# Mixed-Mode Operation
# Bridgeable for 2-, 3-, or 4-Channel Mode Operation
# MOS-FET Power Supply
# Speaker Level Inputs
# Gold-Plated RCA Connectors
# Double-sided Glass Epoxy PC Board

Thanks!

if u want a better amp that is cheaper go to jaycar and buy the 150wx2channel that will give you about 470wrms if the sony is a dvc then buy 2 amps =]

the jaycar is good for power but i wouldn't bet on it for sound quality. You could probably get away with running subs off of them, but don't mess w/speakers with them..
If i were you pops i would go with either two seperate amps (1chan and 2 chan) to run each, or a higher power 3 chan. I don't know how many rms that sub would require, but i assume it would be about 300wrms, that amp would probably only put out about 120wrmsx1 plus 50wrms x2. Go either two seperate or one bigger one.

I am quality over quantity myself and i believe money spent on audio is well spent, many here will disagree ;)

Yeah, it looks like I'll have to save up a bit more. I was trying to do it cheaply but I don't think it's such a wise option and I know I'll regret it.

Cheers guys.

i installed a clarion 4 channel APX400 into my ex-gfs car yesterday. Bridged 2 channels running the sub (12 inch 1000W JBL sub) and 2 channels running the clarion 6x9s.
Sounded very nice :D

word of warning.. you are much worse off over running a sub than under running... No experience with this, but its been said many many times.

Ha you can run a 100WRMS sub off a 1000WRMS mono block... just gotta go easy on the volume button  Some people just get too excited.
