Hey guys,
I've been lurking these forums for a while now, and have got some pretty usefull tips regarding mods and such.
Lately however my car decided to die:rant:
Got a sound system installed at audicom (sub, amp, splits, deck etc.), wet in smooth came out like a piece of crap.
Its been in the mechanics for 8 days now and im still being fed the same crap, im 17 so though dont really take me too seriously.

The problems im having are: Smell of petrol when idling, Stalling (its automatic), Cylinder misfiring frequently, NO power at all when i try to accelarate and the whole car vibrates like its an areoplane

Its a TE 96 magna

The mechanics have done the following: Injectors, Leads, Plugs, Compression tests, Drained fuel tank and maybe somethings i cant remember?

I was hoping anyone could shed some light on my situation.

The computer has been reset... give it a few days.... to re-learn, shift point, idle and such...

Maybe.

an astron in a 3rd gen..... right...

sounds like you may have alternator issues after having the bigger stereo fitted, would explain some of your problems at least, weak spark = poor acceleration, unburnt petrol and missfire (missfire would also explain the vibration)
i could be wrong but it's worth asking.

p.s. mechanics aren't auto electricians.

I was thinking it was something to do with the computer as my engine now has 900 dollars worth of new plugs, leads etc. Which were unesecary (worst speller?) Would it have been something audicom done when running the amp cables or installing the HU?

They may have shorted somthing.... I would be sending the bill on the the installer....LOL

I doubt audiocom would reimburse me. They would find a way to pin it on me.
Oh and its at an auto electrician now whose replacing the injectors again:confused:
The bill just keeps getting bigger, and on apprentice wages ($7.20/hr) it hurts the wallet:cry:

as trotty said..
Stalling would most likely be from when they disconnected the battery when installing your stereo. let the ecu relearn by letting it idle for about 10mins

Should have gone straight back to the audio guys when you had problems. If its happened straight after they did your install then its their problem and they need to pay for the repairs. Thats the WHOLE POINT of paying someone to install it, so you don't' have to deal with **** after.

I've had my power disconnected resetting the ecu heaps of times since I bought the car and sometimes I hadn't bothered to let it learn itself again (because I knew it was just going to be disconnected again) and it never once stalled on me, never even got close, its not simply the learning process.

as het has posted above, it's been 8 days in a workshop and if the mech's haven't started or driven it in that time then mabey he should go see another mechanic.

It has been idling and revving for its life
Its at Auto Masters and now an auto electrician, it has been for a 5 minute drive when i drove to the mechanics and i have seen the mechanic drive it around the carpark.
I went marching into Audiocom straight away when i didnt even make it out of the carpark after the install. There was heaps of white smoke pouring out and i had to get towed home.

Man seriously, Stand up to Audiocom and keep say it's there fault. Don't back down.
If that don't work go to the ACCC and report them.
Worked for me

i wouldnt trust audiocom with my car thats for sure
they must of had the apprentice working on your car :doubt:
theres only a few decent places out there that i would ever take my car to
but thats why i've learnt how to do it myself, if i stuff up i know that its my own stupid fault

I dont really see the point of seeking legal advice. Even if i get a written explanation that says its Audicoms fault. Legal fees would surely outwiegh the mechanic costs?

I just want my car back

possibly, but at least you would of proved a point against audiocom, as for myself there is only a handful of people i would trust touching my car.

**** man, This is why I did my own Audio installations. My car did stall a couple times after the ECU reset, but I sat it idling for half an hour and bingo all fixed up :) bloody car kept trying to idle at 300rpm :P

This is the part that concerns me Quote "There was heaps of white smoke pouring out and i had to get towed home."

Were you there the whole time during the install or not?
Was the vehicle driven at all by the installers? (Thrashed mabey)
Get the mechanics to check for headgasket issues coolant loss etc.
Something suss about it. Strange it went in ok and came back with smoke pouring out of it? But then again are you sure it just wasnt condensation during the warm up.
