View Full Version : High Flow TB-Top end power?

Just wondering if anyone can tell my what the high flow throttle body for the 3 litre V6 (6G72) does for torque figures through out the rev range and also top end horse power and torque?

From what I've gathered so far the high flow unit lets air through earlier at less throttle, hence the improved throttle response, and due to its design and the way it is bored out it causes the air to become slightly denser as it passes through the thottle body, contributing to slightly improved horse power and torque.

Does this sound right? If so can any top end power gains be expected, and also can torque figures through out the rev range be expected to improve. If any, how big or small are these gains? Mitsiman or KB?? Any suggestions??

It will do nothing top end - and if it does it is not noticeable.

It increase Throttle Sensitivy

How about the low down torque figures :? ? Or is it pretty much just the throttle response as air flows through alot earlier.

correct!
normally provides better response!

a new filter increaese response doesnt it ?

depends on what sort of filter!
a filter that would actually provide better response and actually add power, would be one that cleans air efficiently and let a large amount of air in!

but if you put a pod in the engine bay it will actually suck more warm air than anything else (although in some cases there is improvement)

a cold air induction kit is always advisable! (normally enclosed in a sealed box and a pipe running towards the front of the car where cold air is easily accesible.

now would you let more air in when you can't let more exhasut gases out, so a good exhaust is advised as well!

So does any one know if the high flow throttle body helps out the engines torque curve? Reading about what they say about it on the RPW sight, they claim it lets 40% more air through :? , my question is at what point does it let 40 % more air through? As this is what they claim on the RPW site. Any ideas any one?

After doing another search I came across a thread where some one stated that after high flowing a throttle body the flow increases from 80 cfm to 100 cfm. Is this true?

i have one and agree the comments above, it increases sensitivity/response so it takes a while to get used to gentle pressures on the pedal without speeding- but feels nicer to drive. However unless you do other work to process and dispense the extra air available when you open throttle wide there wont be any noticable gain in top end or torque.

So probly no real power gains then, oh well too late now, mines on its way from Perth, spose I'll get to find out for myself exactly what it does for my car.

Cheers.

your throttle position sensor switch on the t/b is adjustable as well, if you have an auto and find that upshifts happen a bit early with less throttle.
