hey just being a bit dramatic i suppose but is there any problem with having 18x8 rims on a TJ magna? they dont sit outside the guards at all and the tyres wont rub while steering so i imagine this is ok right?

yeah they should be legal
as long as they are upto 2" bigger and 1" wider with the correct rolling diameter then you should be sweet
i just picked up some new rims in the same size :D
they sit flush with the front guard and sit fine in the rear, but if i wanna go lower in the rear im going have to get the guard rolled

ummm dude the 2 inch rule hasn't been in for over 5 years but you are right about the rolling diameter of wheel / tyre against the biggest that was available on that body can beno more than 15mm more
must not be viewable from the top of the car either ie not poke past guards

so long as you get the right tyres, the OD (Outside Diameter) should be fine...
however there's an ADR that says you can't change the track of a car by more that 25mm or the track of a FWD car with MacPherson type struts at all.
if you've changed the track of the car (which you probably have/will to get 18x8s to fit without rubbing), they are technically illegal.
but you can have them certified by an engineer.

I have been looking into getting some 18x8 and have been told by a few tyre places that they are fine on magnas

sure, they're fine, so long as you get them engineered.
read the ADRs (http://www.infrastructure.gov.au/roads/motor/design/adr_online.aspx).
chances are you won't be defected for 18x8s, but that wasn't the question. if they change the track they are not legal unless they are certified.

depending on what tyre size you get, if you get 235/40 R18 your rolling diameter is 4mm to large. i got mine tested the other day, i was trying to get a permit for them from the pits, they wouldnt let me :(

I have also been looking to get 18x8 rims but off a BF XR8, does anyone know if these would be any problems with fitting them to my TJ VRX??
Cheers Tim

they are incorrect.

depends on your original OD. if you had 205/65r15 (TJII Advance), 235/40r18 is 2mm smaller and well within the specs. if you had 225/50r17 (Ralliart), then 235/40r18 is 13mm smaller and 245/40r18 is a much better match. it really depends on what you have on your tyre placard.
I believe that the speedometers for all TJs are the same, because my speedo reads as much as 6% difference to a Ralliart speedo sitting side by side on the highway. so if you want your speedo to be (more) correct, get a placard from a VR-X or Ralliart and get 245/40r18 tyres on your certified 18x8s.

what's the offset? my +38 offset 18x8s are about as far out as you can get without fouling the guards.

Isn't that illegal too, tampering?

i believe it is illegal, and u could get into trouble if you find a magna crazy 5-0 officer.
anyway, i got my placard from a mate on here, you need to ring mitsubishi with the VIN number off of a VRX, preferably one that you know, as they might ask you the colour of it, or something else! Then i believe they are $2 and you can go pick it up, or get it sent to you i think.
Fairly sure its illegal, i havent gotten around to getting rims yet, so i havent put mine on.
Also, do you think if u went to court over it, that a VRX and a stock magna are EXACTLY the same, bar rims, muffler, slightly lowered springs, and intake would hold up.
Like i dont understand why every magna doesnt have a VRX placard (with the option of getting 19's leagally)...its stupid.

most likely on the drivers side B-pillar. you can see it when you open the driver's door.
EDIT: I know placard tampering is illegal... I was talking about getting the speedo (more) correct.

as wook said, as u open drivers side door it will be somewhere along there. Either along the Bpillar, or on the flatter part where the scuff plates are.

EDIT:
Says
P205/65R15
205/6515
so from what you said then 235/40R18 is ok with 18x8 rims?

did you even click the link? man, it's the 7th post in this thread and it says OD (Outside Diameter)
nah i mean what does the OD refer to?
OD refers to Overall Diameter of the unloaded tyre.

Open the sizes window and put the arrow on the question mark above OD for explanation.
