My 380 is at 44450 kms, due for the 45000km in about 550km. There is a spanner appearing beside the odometer reading. I plan to do the service myself, is there a way to get rid of the spanner once it's done?

pretty sure there isnt, need somehow to access the ECU, i think someone tracked down the required cord/software which COULD help you

There will be a procedure you do with a key on and off and pressing a button on the dash... Maybe the odometer button. There will be a sequence to remove it.
Give a dealer's service dept a call and ask how to remove it.

Spanner icon is on my dash too, apparently it disappears in 1,000km or so.

To retain the Mitsubishi Roadside assist they require one dealer service per year, not that it justifies the prices they charge.

Drive for two hours nonstop and you get a cup o coffee warning light.

I'd ring Mitsu and see if you servicing it effects your warranty, I think the service must be accreditted, you'd have to check.

I am in favor of servicing a car by their owners but your car is newish and it has some warranty remaining, so if I were you I would wait with DIY until warranty expire.
Take it to the service or the mechanic of your choice (one that has registered business, so he can stamp your service book) and you wont loose warranty.
I believe, in the Owners Manual, which is supplied with the car should be explained how to reset service symbol from the dashboard.
Your car should have six years warranty on engine.

I just had my 15k service done at Paceway Mitsubishi where I bought my car.. $189 for an oil change basically .. but at least it retains the warranty. Also they took care of some warranty stuff. For less than 200 bucks i'd rather someone who can access the ecu and check for faults etc

i know that the most important service to get done by mitsu to retain your new car warrenty, is the 1000km new car checkup / service and then the first scheduled service at what is it 5 or 10 thousand kms?

i was told that as long as them two are done by a mitsy stealership then the warrenty on the car remains - expect work done by another mechy or yourself is NOT covered - ie replaced part by another agent breaks, and takes out part of your engine.. .that WONT be covered under warrenty.

EDIT - the spanner service icon comes on pre service requirement to remind you to book in the car to get it serviced.
should dissapear about 500km after the service interval by itself, but im sure a mitsy mechanic would reset it for you when they do the service after surrendering your right arm and leg to pay for it....

I'm happy to stay with my dealer while a) the warranty is still in effect, and b) until/unless I'm not happy with dealer, service price, etc. I do have a good mechanic friend that can do the logbook services but he's always very busy, whereis with the dealer I can rock up at my booking-in time and sit in waiting room, watch TV and eat free sandwiches.
As for freaky dash symbols, I got startled when I was going for my first long cruise, and that coffee cup appeared (rest stop alert). It keeps beeping for a few seconds (and repeats in 10mins). I thought it was something serious, like the engine about to implode or something.

You can reset the spanner (p. 3.8) and turn off the rest timer (p. 3.15) easily, it's all in the handbook.

Just got a quote from Penfold Mitsu of 450 bucks for a 45000km service. Think it's a bit steep ? Doesn't even include transmission oil change, only brake fluid, engine oil, filter and the rest of check/inspect.

Local mechanic down the road quoted 250, but would it void the warranty if he uses all original parts ?

i know mitsu (or any dealer for that fact) can charge heaps, but if you were looking at buying a used car and had 2 identical ones to chose from (say 2 x 380s), would you chose the one with full service history and mitsu stamps in the log book, or the other that has been serviced by 3 or 4 different places?

id rather see a logbook that has had every service done on time, stamped and carried out by the manufacturing dealer.. but thats just me..

while you might think (and know for sure) you are gettin just as good or even better service done elsewhere - it is still a very good selling point..

even if the car is out of warranty, having it done each time by the same place give you some ammo if anything does go wrong because they have been the only people touch it.. mitsu are pretty good with this and its pretty easy to get them to cover stuff under 'goodwill' warranty if you have always had your car serviced with them.. makes it hard for them to shift the blame then..

thats the way i look at it..

but - on topic - yes, the reminder is easy as to reset.. not like my damn commodore.. :doubt:
