Just wondering if anyone has ever bought a brand new VR-X (series 2 TJ) muffler from mitso?? how much was it... spares are closed now so I figured surely someone has bought one before.

I do want to keep the car standard so I'm not gonna get a milo tin with a monster dump pipe so please only standard.

Mine has developed 2 small (5c size) holes in the pipe just before the muffler and at the moment it's been patched using some exhaust repair tape.

I've never had this happen in any of my cars... mostly it's a crack in the muffler but never the pipe....

Has anyone gone to an exhaust shop to replace just the pipe part??

What sorta money am I looking at either ???(if anyone knows)
If I have to pay $150 to get the pipe made up or, say $250 for the whole assembly I'd rather buy the whole thing new.

Its a Lukey LR2779 muffler... Just go to an exhaust shop, no idea of cost sorry :(

or a AL6-5597 Its the replacement rear box and piping from the rear flange onward, lukey make it it is 200 bucks and uses the lr2779 muffler, same noise as a VRX one from memory (only been in 1 VRX before). Any exhaust shop and Supercheap Auto can get it in for you.

I bought a genuine Mitsu part a couple of years back - its a version of the VRX muffler with the droop snout to fit the standard bumper instead of the straight VRX snout and includes the piping forward of the muffler to the join under the rear seat. Also its full stainless - Mitsu apparently offer them in mild steel or stainless. Anyways it was :

MIMR924731 - Muffler Assembly Main - $347.20 + GST
MIMB687014 - Gasket Exhaust Flange - $17.54 + GST

yea got one for 220 from an exhaust shop too...

If you are interested, I got a spare Ralliart muffler, no tip though

I'll get a quote ffom an exhaust shop to bend me another pipe I guess....

Does it sound like the VR-X muffler at all or louder....
I got a thing about sports exhausts on an Auto... just doesn't sound right....the stock VR-X sound is about as loud as I'd go!!

blackbird, just to let you know mate, the rear muffler on a VRX is also the same part as that on a TJ Sports & Ralliart... so the offer above of a ralliart rear muffler is good for you.. its exactly what your after....

something that will bolt up without any work (Tip/Pipe/flange) Lazy bugger I am!!
Looked at getting that one... but the joker in the exhaust shop wants $60-$80 to weld my tip on a muffler???!!!
