My TF needs new front brake pads and the brakes machined. Going to cost around $200. Tightass me has spotted a new set of front rotors and pads for $130 at an online sale. Just wondering is it a hard or big job to do? Non abs version.

ABS and Non ABS are exactly the same rotor, pads are very simple, pull the old ones out use a G clamp or similar to push the piston back into the bore fit new pads pump the pedal and its done.

I havent done rotors on a Magna before but being a floating disc assembly i daresay it will be remove the center Hub nut, then hammer old one off fit new one, Admire from afar then put the center nut back on tension it up pads in Admire again from afar then wheel on and bed them in.

all you need to do to change the rotor and pads is

take tyre off take caliper off and rotor slides straight off no need to undo the hub at all

yeah, exactly waht B. Jelly said, but you have to remove the caliper mounting bracket that bolts to the back of the hub assy, as it wraps around the front of the rotor. :D

It is not either hard or big job, at least is not for someone who knows what he is doing. Assuming this is your first brake job, I would suggest to have someone with experience around and also buy Gregory's or similar repair manual.
You will need Torque Wrench as well.

Leave the hammer where it is. Hammer is good if you are doing something with wood, like to nail two pieces of wood together, or if you are building brick wall you might need hammer, or blah blah blah......

To remove discs you do not need hammer nor do you need to touch Hub nut. Buy Gregory's, you'll find it handy.

I find hammer useful for fine tuning picture on tv or washing windows and dishes. For everything else duct tape is the way to go.

Changing the discs? Just tap the disc with a hammer (taking care not to hit the hub) to get it off. Its what we do at work - nothing wrong with it.
