View Full Version : Anti Lock Dash Light Flashing

I recently got an ECUDatascan (http://www.ecudatascan.com/) engine diagnostics module for my car. It plugs into the diagnostics port under the dash and displays info that the ECU sees.

When plugged in it causes the Anti Lock light in the instrument cluster to flash. It flashes in a sequence (2 long flashes, 4 short flashes), which to me means it's flashing the code 24.

Does anyone know if this is a fault code? Has it disabled my ABS system when plugged in and flashing? My braking system is operating as per normal so i'm not sure what the flashing light is trying to tell me.

Code 24: Rear left wheel speed sensor

Remove the wheel and check for loose or broken wire from the sensor, clean around sensor.

Edit:

Measure the resistance between the speed sensor terminals. Standard value: 1.4-1.8 Kohms
If the internal resistance of the sensor is not within the standard value, replace the sensor.

Speed sensor insulation inspection

Remove all connections from the sensor, and then measure the resistance between terminals (1) and (2) and the body of the sensor. Standard value: 100 Kohms or more.
If the sensor insulation resistance is outside the standard value range, replace the sensor.

Thanks for that. Weird thing is if i unplug the ECUDatascan from the diagnostics port the flashing light stops. Shouldn't it always be on if there is a problem with the wheel speed sensor? Also, what does the sensor look like?

Theres sposed to be certain lights that flash and turn on etc when you plug in a diagnostics cable.

Well there are a couple of other lights that flash when i plug the ECUDatascan into the diagnostics port:

Check Engine light
- Flashes for a few seconds on start up then turns off permanently

TCL OFF light
- Only flashes when car is stationary, when car is moving it turns off

I get all sorts of funny lights when I connect my diag cable, haven't worked out what they mean or why yet.

That's a pretty sweet piece of kit. What do you think so far?

the check engine light just means its in diagnostic mode.

Here is some more behaviour I noticed tonight when the ECUDatascan is plugged into the diagnostics port:

ANTI LOCK light
- Flash sequence (2 long flashes, 4 short flashes) only when car is stationary
- Light stays on continuously when car is in motion

Neutral light
- Neutral gear indicator light flashes only when transmission is in Park, otherwise normal behaviour

I personally don't think there's anything wrong with the car but the ANTI LOCK light craps me to tears as it keeps blinking away. I think i'll just remove the light from the dash if it keeps annoying me.

Does your Evoscan cable do the same things a i've described in this thread?

Been great so far and love all the info regarding what's happening with the engine. I'll take some pics and videos on the weekend to show how i mounted it in the car and what it looks like in action.

Correct and it doesn't bother me as much as the ANTI LOCK light as the Check Engine light only flashes for a few seconds on start up and then turns off.

Looking at the video of that it would drive me crazy, the refresh rate is way too low on the devices screen based on the video. Each to their own I guess though, I'd of just gone carpc+usb diagnostics cable and some software to tap it to the ECU and display live data (Kind of like the Nissan GTR R35 with a carpc to power it)

The video on the ECUDatascan site is a simulation (there is one section where the coolant temp is being shown as unrealistic negative and positive temps that would prolly destroy an engine if it were real).

The refresh rate on the actual unit itself is pretty good considering it's displaying 8 unique parameters at the same time.

If the datascan is picking up a signal from that sensor, maybe the main ECU is reading it as a fault. Could it be that simple?
I would hesitate to start unplugging factory sensors for things like ABS; if my ABS really is faulty I would want to know.
Is this the only speed sensor on the car? And if the speedo/ trip comp is working then the sensor should be OK you'd reckon.

I saw it last night and trust me it refreshes VERY fast

Oh dear, you got it all wrong.

Magnas with ABS have speed sensor, also known as wheel sensor at each wheel. There is also toothed rotor or pulse ring at each wheel. They have nothing to do with speedo/tripmeter .

The slots in the pulse ring generate pulses in the wheel sensor which are transmitted to the ABS ECU which then calculates wheel speed and deceleration rates.
The ABS ECU signals the modulator assembly to increase or decrease hydraulic pressure to each wheel individually, to maintain minimum wheel rotation without locking.

In the event of an ABS malfunction, the brakes revert to a normal braking system.

Speedo/odometer combination gets signal from speed sensor which is mounted on the transaxle (gearbox). :)

Any Mitsu mechanics out there who can shed more light on the thread topic?

Mohit, these are all things I've seen when using my Evoscan USB cable. Haven't worked out how to stop them yet.

Where in Melbourne can i go to see if my car is throwing up any error codes apart from a Mitsu dealer who would prolly charge me an arm and a leg for the privilige?

I don't know if your cable can do it (I see on the website it supports USB), but using my cable and the software on the PC I can read error codes.

Had a look in the Evoscan software that I bought to use with my cable, and it does let you clear diagnostic trouble codes:

I downloaded the Evoscan software to my laptop and plugged it into the ECUDatascan module which is plugged into the diagnostics port. It let me check for error codes, thankfully there are none :o)

Just on the ABS light - I tested this on the way home, with my ECUDatascan plugged in, and there's no ABS. Unplugged - ABS works fine.
