Hi all,
Got a second gen tranny cooler here that I want to put onto my TJ, just wondering if anyone else has done this and what they did to adapt the thing onto the current setup.
Second gen cooler has moulded piping attached to it already, so i'm debating chopping that off, I'm not sure how I'm going to get it past the radiator just yet, really cbf taking the front bar off.
Failing that I'll just buy a generic cooler, advice and hints appreciated.
I'll be running it in series with my in-radiator transmission cooler.

I've fitted one of these to a KE. It's fairly easy, as there's a handy threaded hole in the reinforcement that runs vertically down the centre of the A/C condenser, which you can bolt the cooler to, and make up a bracket to support the bottom of the cooler. You can either plumb in it series with the main radiator's tank, or bypass it altogether.
If you mount it horizontally, you'll probably have to run the piping underneath the radiator; if you mount it vertically you can run the piping around the driver's side of the radiator.
It's more than likely that you'll have to remove the front bar, as it's VERY difficult with it on.
Another thing to bear in mind is that the 2nd Gen cooler is about 25mm thick, whilst most aftermarket units are about 19mm thick. Thicker cooler = greater surface area = better cooling.

i got one from a wreckers. the piping on mine was on an adjustable nut so i just loosened itturned around and tightened to face the required direction. I put it in series after the radiator and mounted it in front of the condenser against the vertical lock support (Zip tied). Very easy job...even easier if you have the use of a hoist. if you cant change the piping just have longer hose to avoid crimping.

Super. I'm adamant that I won't remove the front bar :P I'll just pop out the grille and install it up there hopefully. Might have to saw some of the annoying pre-bent piping off it and run flexible hose to the 'out' pipe of the in-radiator cooler, and cool that 'cooled' fluid off with the new cooler...
That said, which hose is the 'out' hose from the radiator?
