its quite complicated...u need to chisel out the engine to increase capacity, do it carefully though.
lol na dude, believe the only way about it, is buying another engine/donor car, and transferring parts over.
the 3.5 is a much much better engine. btw good too see the car back on the road ::)

Sounds expensive
I couldn't keep up at last nights cruise, so hoping to get a bit more power

I couldn't keep up at last nights cruise, so hoping to get a bit more power
lukey/VRX exhaust = more free flowing, = more power
KN panel filter = filters **** = more power
apexi stickers in the absense of a turbo = same effect as turbo= more power
im a "feel like making **** jokes mood so forgive me"...um top two options are fairly cheap and are probabaly the best bang for your buck in terms of power.
you can probabaly do a full 3.5 converison for under 2grand....i think.

i looked at a few places at 3.5L reconditioned engines for mine and got told between 3000-3500....don't know if it was just the places i rang though...

best off buying a car that has been rear end collision and deemed as a write off..and use this car as a donor....or something similar.

Just out of curiosity, does this conversion come under the P Plate "Engine modification" law as illegal?

i would believe so, as the car you drive, comes in a 3.5 litre version - does it not?

How fast are people driving at cruises? If you can't keep up with the rest of the guys in a 3.0L then that's kind of concerning to say the least....
On a more related topic, you need a 3.5L engine, conversions arnt uncommon. If you're going 3.5 you can keep your current gearbox or you could change to manual at the same time, assuming you don't already have a manual that is.
Some of these may be helpful.

Ebay is fulla 3.5ltrs atm, goin cheap-ish too.
Also... i dono if it would come under the engine modification law... cos it's factory. And by the by, didnt the KE come with the 3.5ltr??? so then i guess u could scootch around it. Depends how tight the cop is... It isnt one of those obvious engine mods, and u could probably fly under the radar on 99.9999% of occasions

The KE had the 3.5, and is the same series as the TE, all the RTA will need is a change of engine number.....

I doubt any cop will know anything about magnas anyway "Woah sonny that magna Didnt come out with that big block 3.5L Did it now?"
To most of them its just a magna.

i did this not tooo long ago, the enginge cost me 650 i think?? but its from a KL gtvi and only had like 20 thousand Km's on it so thats awesome!
had my mechanic put it in for me, and he charged me almost nothing for it at all.
only problem im having is that i didnt change the ecu over, and so im running the 3L ecu, and thats causing some issuses.. the car wont let me rev it past 5000rpm, and wont change gear eitehr, so it will just sit then and make a hell annoying sound.. but it surely is a cheapish bang for buck mod!
awesome

wow i didn't realise you could get them so cheap, maybe i should look into it

normally their like 800 i think he said.

thats still now to bad, what is the difference in terms of power from the 3L to the 3.5L? and do they usually have to many k's on them?

well the one i got had 20000 Kms on it, so thats good he had a few around with 80000 but he liked me so yeah.. haha
My te had 140kw, and the 3.5 i got has 163, but thats as long as youhave the sports muffler, which i already had..
cant comment too much on the difference in driveability, except the 3.5 is sooo much nice, but i got new extractors and a newcai put in at the same time, so yeah..

This one looks a bit rough to me thou. Been in the weather too long too.
I've been quoted 600-700 for a 3.5 long motor.

Splitting Hairs here but....Youd be running ~158kW due to your ECU having the older tune on it.......TJII and TJ Sports/VRX had a revised tune to gain 5kW.
Its the torque difference in the 3.5 that youll notice the most anyways.....

I can vouch for that, day to day drive ablility was so much better with the 3.5, allot more midrange punch so you didn't have to shift gears as often. Going from a TF 3.0 to a TJ Sports/VRX 3.5 you get about 23kW, but more importantly 63Nm :)

so can i... except i did a proper conversion, so i had no issues (sold the TF (auto) and bought a TL (manual))

so basicly you just change the motor and ecu to match the 3.5 and your on your way???
awesome
25-05-2008, 02:13 PM
i don't need to do any changes with the transmition do i? because if its just the motor and ecu there will be a new 3.5 TE around haha :P

yes tranny bolts straight up the 3.0-3.5 is exactly the same except the deck height is 18mm lower and a bigger bore stroke ratio

I believe that you'd also need the harness.
If you change the ECU don't you also need the keys to match??
wendnarb
25-05-2008, 08:08 PM
you dont need the keys, you need to handshake the ecu to the car.. or handshake is what i member it to be called...
and auto electriction or general mechanic should be able to do it.. in handshaking it you use your onwn key too..
but harness pretty sure not!
awesome
25-05-2008, 08:17 PM
well as long as everything goes well i'll be going through with it...it won't cost much more than repairing it so i can't wait

the gear ratios in the 3.5 are different to the 3.0, you might want to change the gear box, or to might have a very toey 3.5 thats pretty fast due to closer ratios but also a bit thirstier
Screamin TE
26-05-2008, 05:27 AM
the only difference was the first gear ratio in the manuals.
the 3.5 has a slightly taller ratio to try and combat wheelspin off the line.
matty.c
27-05-2008, 08:03 AM
according to the book the diff ratio is lower in the 3.5..
i wish mine had a shorter ratio.. it wwould make a bit better difference off the line..
or even a 5spd auto.. one extra gear can make one hell of a difference!
