As in the knobs?
If just the knobs the 2 little ones pull off and the slidy tab but the big ones dont come off easy anyway

Paul half that sentence doesn't make sense. I thought they all just pulled off? I know the small ones come off easy as (even with a vacuum, don't try that :doubt:), aren't the big ones the same, just quite a bit firmer?

What's your main goal? Removing the entire control box, putting on a new faceplate, changing the light?

From what I can tell, removing the entire box seems to be a real pain, you have to remove all of the control rods etc., and remember where they came from! I suggest downloading the service manual pdf (do a search here, can't remember the link offhand).

If you want to replace the light, you can do that while the box is still in, just unbolt the 4 corners and pull it down as far as you can, reach your fingers over the top and you'll feel a single bulb holder, give it a twist and poop it out. It's all pretty tight, but doable.

Can you post a pic?
I put in a White t5 (non wide spread one) and looks crap
just spots, wondering how much the wide angle one would help

T5 Wide angle in blue in heater controls, cig lighter and ashtray, just got the gear selector to do and the power button, post pic tomorrow or tuesday after finished the last 2 globes, is so much more subtle than the green, I have the blue interior aswell

Is there any chance that someone knows what each and every one of the globes in the dash and centre console are in the 2nd Gens? If so could it please be put in a sticky which details exactly where it is, how to get at it and what type of globe it is (eg, T10 wide, T5 regular, etc).

I couldn't find this but it's possible I'm going about it the wrong way.

I am thinking about doing my whole dash the next time it has to come apart and it'd be a handy DIY thread if it could be made.

Cheers.

Dude surely you understand globes....if its not a wide angle its going to fixate on the point the globe points at directly, and dramatically fade towards the edges, which will look **** in anything except like a button or something. T5 wide angle will spread the light out and it should be much more balanced.

I know in the cluster itself you put 6-chip wide angle T10's in which produces the same light as the standard bulb, can probably get something similar in a T5, although it'll probably be a 4 or 5 chip being smaller. At least you can put LED's in your heater/air con controls, bloody climate in the 3rd gens, no space :(

Is there any chance that someone knows what each and every one of the globes in the dash and centre console are in the 2nd Gens? There's quite a few in the centre console that are of a type no-one seems to have been able to identify. I've trawled through all kinds of auto globe sites, and nothing seems to come close.
Examples of the bulbs; the analogue clock, hazards, demister, rear window wiper (wagon), etc... basically most of the centre console.

Main ones for replacement in the dash are 4 T10s and 2 T5s. Get wide angle for all.
Footwell is T10.
Festoons are 31mm.
Parkers are either T10 or BA9S, depending on your headlights (if the bulb is a wedge type, it's a T10, if it is a bayonet type, it's BA9S)

Just thought I'd check to see if there is any changes with what's available for second gens with these new globes which are mentioned in this thread...http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=59165?
