Hi Folks,

No I'm not lost, I'm meant to be in 'Car Audio' lol

I'm about to load the car up with sound deadening, dynamet gets plenty of raves online (the price is pretty rude thou).

Any other, cheaper alternative (besides smash 'n' grab!) with similar performance available.

I run a near stock sound system, just want to kill the road noise and keep the exhaust to a dull roar.

Thanks in advance!

it all depends on how you look at it? yes it is expensive, but it will depeden alot more effectively than cheaper alternatives. You will need to ues more of the cheaper deadener to get the same results that youd get using the dynamat. So realistically your "cheaper alternative wont be cheaper once you buy 3 layers compared to the 1 you would have used if youd gone with dynamat in the 1st place.

Don't skimp... Go dynamat.

Otherwise Flashtac is useful... Pretty crap though in terms of bang-for-buck (or should we say "thud" for buck). TUFFTR swears by the paint on 4L bituminous sound deadener from Supercheap, its not bad, I think Rockford Fosgate make a spray on version too but it sucks.

I won't tell you how much I scored my 32sqft of dynamat for :bowrofl:

Yeah i'll come in now and plug it :P
Basically the stuff is HELL cheaper to buy then the matt stuff, but the huge downside of it is it STINKS and takes about a week to dry!
So i guess its only good if you can have the car off the road for a week or dont mind the smell...
For $45ish it will cover (deaden) alot more area then what the mat stuff will.
so its awesome to use on parcel shelf, roof, doors etc

jaycar electronics also sell 3 different kinds of deadener as well that are a crapload cheaper than dynamat
as for the "brush on" deadener that stuff is good for under the car
that's about it really :P

theres a new lighter product out, i forget the name. The Treo guys were importing it and gave me a demo, seemed pretty cool. Maybe check on MEA forums for the name of it.

I'll let you know if i remember it. But I've tried it all, no cheap options, best bet is to bite the bullet and go the dynamat option. You can spread it out and only focus on the larger panels these are most susceptible.

Use shotcrete. Try finding one with smaller fibres.

I've used the jaycar Sound deadning (bitumen based stuff with the silver on the other side) and by the time i purcahsed enough to do 2 doors it would of worked about the same if i just got dynamat :P

SO yeah, sometimes better to just bite the bullet

That's what I thought.

I have already painted the motogard stuff in the boot EVERYWHERE and it stunk the place out for ages. I will be loading up the underbody with the remainder of the 4L tin soon.

The jaycar stuff looked crude and very thin, couldn't handle moisture etc.

Hi mate

Try stinger roadkill for the sides. I used it and loved it:D
and Clark Rubber has some Sound Dampening Material that is about 3cm thick
and then just add glue.
