View Full Version : Help Putting Intake On!!
Hey guys,
I have just been trying to put my Galant intake on and I cannot for the life of me unscrew those little expanding screws that hold the intake on the front of the car!!
Do you know the ones I mean . . They have 4 little feet that expand as you tighten them up. .
It just will not undo. . I have tried holding the head of it, so that it does not spin . . But it sill wont budge . .
Does anyone have any ideas how I can get this off?
Cheers,
Paul

i had the same thing with my3rd gen if you use don't put any pressure on the screw + the screw driver it self, it will come out.
or
if you can get your finger underneath push on the bottom of it and the screw should come out as your undoing it.
or
use a small flat head screw driver (like a watch one) to pry it out as your undoing it
Thanks mate. . . I got it out . . .
Now I am faced with my next problem!!
I have the intake off . . And got the first bolt for the airbox off (I thought that this was all that held it in) but I have now discovered another bolt under a rectangular silver box (a controller of sorts??) and there is no way i can get my hand into a position to undo that bolt!!
For those who have done this and have used both the intake and the airbox what did you do? How did you get said bolt undone and the box removed?

I just had a look at mine & there are two visible bolts, mines a series 2 auto must be different to yours coz I don't have a rectangular silver box in the way????:doubt:

Once you have removed the 2 screws attaching the intake to the front, there are 2 bolts attaching the airbox which need to be un done. The 1st one is in front of the airbox, next to the washer reserviour & the second is at the back of the airbox. To access the front bolt, you need a 10mm socket attached to an extension which will fit between the silver rectangular box & your airbox. You also need the socket with extension to remove the rear bolt, then un-snap the clips attaching the front of the airbox to the rear & then remove the front half of the airbox (the rear section of the airbox stays on the car.) If you are still struggling, PM me and I'll give you my mobile & I can talk you thru it.
Thanks mate . .
I looked at it this morning and it just looks like I wont be able to squeeze in to get that bolt that is close to the silver rectangular thing (what is this by the way??). I will have another look and see when I get home tonight . . :D

The area below the silver box with the black top is just a locator pin on my model.
From a quick glance there's a bolt at the front (per filter), and one at the rear of the Box(post Filter).

That silver rectangular thing is your ECU! :D
You know the saying - a picture says a thousand words.
So im a moron . Yes.
I didn't realise that it was a guiding pin under the ECU and that I had to undo the bolt at the back.
BUT ANYWAYS . .
I got the intake on and I am smiling from ear to ear
The first thing you notice is the amazing intake growl!! I dont even care if there are no other improvements, it was worth the money just for the sound (and thats with the stock filter)
It has really turned the car into a bit of a weapon I reckon, its the car that should have been available in the showroom . .
But at the end of the day, I recommend this to anyone with a 380 as you certainly wont be disappointed!
P.S. Is it a strange place for the ECU at the front of the car? Isn't it usually inside, under the dash in most cars? Or did i dream that.

Holden and i beleive Ford to it too now. My preference would be inside the car but thats the way they build them these days.

glad to see you got it in, now all you needs is a K & N panel filter

K&N filter really made the difference for me. Just so much more responsive.
